Surprised how much these went for yesterday at Bonhams. It is the first time I’ve seen a matching numbered set appear at auction.

Yeah they are incredible results, especially for the fame and beauty as they are very recent prints. I also have one of these, so that’s a bonus! Hopefully he will start to be more recognised as an artist now his prints are going through the larger auction houses 😁

Still searching for Nick smith older prints as mentioned in my last post. Ideally, Mona Lisa, girl with Pearl earring, mundi, jaws bigger boat, any of the boobs or paramour ie 32c or nudes. Originals or prints. Cheers

I know I wouldn't sell mine. Baring in mind what the pieces went for at auction last month (I'm not sure who sold them as they were all a/p's) I'm thinking that a framed (complete matching set) would be worth considerably more than £20k The fluro's were £1200 unframed, same with the pastels. Framing isn't cheap these days either

ABOUT THE IMAGE:



Released in conjunction with his current solo exhibition POSED, which is on view until 22nd December, Nick Smith returns to David Hockney’s iconic imagery.

After the success of his reworking of ‘Bigger Splash’ in 2015, he takes another Californian pool scene and makes it his own. Developing his craft, Smith has written his own original texts for each of the pieces in POSED, including 'Peter Getting Out Of Nick's Pool, creating a fictional narrative behind the muse in each piece, and making the viewer consider these iconic portraits in a new light.

The bold colours in this work beautifully in Smith’s instantly recognisable style, breaking the image down into its key colour components. We definitely think this is set to be one of Smith’s most popular releases to date.

The two originals of this sold out instantly, so I think this print will sell well too. Originals were £6000 from memory at the show, so I guess £800 for a print is fairly reasonable for quite a large print, but edition number does seem rather high. It’s a great original image and the prose on this is very good. Will be interesting to see how quickly this sells. And I have no idea who Peter or Nick are either…..😁

Peter Getting Out of Nick's Pool is a 1966 acrylic-on-canvas painting by the British pop art artist David Hockney. It depicts the rear view of a naked man climbing out of a swimming pool outside a contemporary house. It is held at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool.

Hockney moved from England to California in 1964, drawn by its sleek modernist aesthetic and warm Mediterranean climate. In 1966, while teaching at UCLA, Hockney met the American art student Peter Schlesinger. The two became lovers, and Hockney started painting a series of pool pictures, often featuring Schlesinger. A few of these, such as Peter Getting Out of Nick's Pool (1966), A Bigger Splash (1967) and Portrait of an Artist (Pool with Two Figures) (1972), later achieved iconic status.
