It's not one I'm going to try to buy, but think they'll fly. All his other releases have and his secondary market is strong. He's just charging closer to what the flippers charge.

Expecting an artist to keep their prices low when their secondary prices keep climbing seems unfair to the artist, I'd say. Why shouldn't they get paid what their work is worth?

Isn't part of the fun discovering people who aren't big names? Collecting artists on the rise is always going to get more expensive. You cant blame the artist for trying to maximise his income. I cant see him becoming the next Banksy price or career wise so he may as well make hay whilst the sun shines.

I've been critical of Nick Smith's art in the past.**
The issue for me is not so much the gimmickry, but rather the fact I find this gimmickry so uninteresting. And uninspiring. It is conceptually mundane.
Originals of Smith's work (with actual Pantone colour chips) would not look out of place at the Affordable Art Fair. Or at other comparable venues where home decorators can fill their boots with portraits of Marilyn Monroe and Bob Marley β made with used wine corks, bottle caps, or pieces of broken records.
As for multiples by Smith, i.e. even flatter pieces that are one step removed from his already-dull originals, I really don't know what to make of them.
