Girl with balloon Canvas, by wacky on Nov 25, 2015 9:24:02 GMT 1, Just checked the other threads and i can only find 3 sizes and variations in the GWB originals and canvas.
The one on metal, which I recall seeing at Lazinc years ago and obviously the 2 squared canvas one.
Question being - was the canvas edition always square? or did it come in other sizes??

Girl with balloon Canvas, by lee3 on Nov 25, 2015 17:27:07 GMT 1, Metal is edition 5 and rectangle. Both the single and diptych canvas releases are edition 25 and square. There was the enormous one at barely legal which is rectangle, the crude/vandalized oil version on the snow scene and a number of other one offs too on canvas and wood. There is also an edition of 7 or 8 on paper/reverse of prints. Bottom line, that composition has come in many shapes, sizes and mediums.

So many variations, how difficult can it be to draw the string a bit longer, that balloon sailing away stresses the s**t out of me. You want the balloon in her hand or further away like Keyser Soze?

No imagination necessary and removes some of the fun to my eyes, but nice that it provokes a response just the same.

Girl with balloon Canvas, by Matt on Nov 25, 2015 21:59:26 GMT 1, I already hated the GWB image, but now after seeing this thread i really am not feeling wellโฆ
Of all the great stuff Banksy has put in the streets, and of all the great images that made it into a print, why the hell would this be the world's favorite ?
I always assumed it was released as a joke, knowing quite well that every ready-to-hang canvas outlet, every portobello souvenir shop, every crappy tat parlor in the world etc... would feast on this image ad nauseam
In my eyes it is so bad, that I'm actually 99.9% sure this one could maybe be by Outis (who's weak elephant joke is actually better than this image to meโฆ)

For those who may have overlooked the detail in the version posted by Feral Things at the top-left, this is a larger image of In the Event of Divorce Cut Here:
The painting's provenance is crucial: Gifted by the artist to Dennis Hopper in 2010, during the time he was dying of terminal cancer while also going through a bitter divorce from his fifth wife.
This original (spray paint on masonite) was one of some 30 pieces from the Dennis Hopper Collection sold at Christie's, New York in November 2010 โ six months after the actor's death, and apparently according to his wishes. Around 300 other fine art works and memorabilia from that collection were later sold by Christie's in January 2011.

Dennis once told me about his art collections. The memory is hazy as the conversation took place prior to him being given the Banksy. But I seem to remember him saying that he had built up four art collections since the late 1950s and each time he'd had to sell to fund a divorce. His first contained early Warhols, Lichensteins, Pollocks etc and the maths were something like โฆ it had cost him $150,000 to amass, when he sold it it raised $3 million or so, if he'd kept it, it would have been worth over $200 million. (All figures are approximate). Like I say, he did this several times and the final time was the collection referred to above, which was sold off after his death.

French movie "Red Balloon" (also known as Boy with the red balloon) 1956 It won quite a few awards including an Oscar and Palme dO'r Well worth the look.

The tag or "stenciled signature on the over flap" as the auction houses refer to it is indicative of the editioned canvas releases (both single canvas and diptych releases). It's going to be on all 50 of those and perhaps a few one offs. A nice bonus if you will.
Motor, great post above- thx for that.

You may well be right about the influence of the movie and poster image.
