Since the lot of you are in UK and prefer collection I figure this issue will come up sooner or later since I'm based in USA. (or even flying domestically to collect)

To protect it, I'd put the print inside a cut to length piece of plastic drain pipe, and either fashion some secure ends, or pop the drain pipe inside a conventional cardboard tube.
Careful of the rough edges on the drain pipe through!

Flying with largish size print, by Matt on Dec 7, 2015 23:36:27 GMT 1, I flew Singapore-Heathrow last year, with Charming Baker's War Child Print between 2 sheets of plywood.
When told I would have to put in in the hold, I said OK but I would like to insure it for 10 grand. The staff couldn't figure out whether they needed to come up with some sort of paperwork, or tell me to piss off.
In the end I was escorted on the plane with the crew, and got to find a nice place for it in the captain's cabinet…
Now I just use tubes. Have transported tons of prints from US to UK with a good old tube and have never been asked any questions

I bought a Banksy LN during a trip in UK few years ago. The print was flat, i just put it in a tube and took it with me on the plane for the flight. Like that i always had an eye (and a hand) on my little beauty . |

Only issue was US customs asking me what it was and was it under $1000 (Toxic Mary)

Get a nice fat tube, some tissue paper, brown paper and roll it all up. You want to make sure its rolled tight enough that it doesn't slide about (the print within the paper and the paper within the tube) but not too tight that it won't naturally unroll when you take it out.....and roll it when you have time and space to do it properly, a few more hours won't make a great deal of difference so leaving it until the last minute isn't the main concern. Tape up one end of the caps too - especially if they aren't as tight as they could be.
