The exhibition started a week ago and ends April 24, so plenty of time to sell out, but I do agree that they should start shipping abroad. Plenty of interest from international buyers.

Or maybe the Chinese students in Melbourne will realise that they can potentially make more money flipping art than flipping baby formula. In that case, it will be sold out by the end of the week...hehehe

While I agree that there is quite a long time remaining until the exhibition ends, I think there's definitely a ceiling as to what these are worth and what people are willing to pay. The Royal Academy wanted £14k but those are unique and really not comparable to these. I would have been willing to pay around £6k for one of those. I can't find any auction results for small sculptures made by him so I don't know what they're really worth but I am happier than a hog in slop that I got one; they're really gorgeous little sculptures and I think that his profile will only rise in the future.

These are all handmade, therefore making each and every piece unique. The NGV editions were made from the same place as Royal Academy editions. They just dont have the four different colours or the same edition size (99 v 60). Like most, I am curious to see if this edition sells out, and how high the price gets. One would have thought the NGV would have priced this consistently with the RA.

And someone has made the Peony available on Ebay for £7k. Good luck with that.

Bearing in mind it's a new porcelain edition, maybe the whole forum can just agree to pretend that Peony already sold out and reached AUD $20,000 at source.

This way, everyone currently focused on pricing is able — in a single go — to get the giddiness out of their system. And then perhaps feel more relaxed about shifting the debate slightly.

Although excitement among early buyers about tiering and increasing resale value is fully understandable, it's eclipsing the artwork itself. At such an early stage post-release, this seems unfortunate, especially with an artist as significant as Ai Weiwei.

There will be plenty of time in, say, one or two months to revert back to discussions about potential windfalls on the secondary market.

I am working out a few framing options for the Peony. It's way too fragile to mount vertically, so we are thinking of having a perspex box made with a mirror on the back so you can get a good look at it. Not sure what to do with the box it came with though.. I want to keep it with the Peony, but it will wreck the 'look' I'm going for.

Has anyone framed/boxed something similar before?? I'm at a bit of a loss.

Glass dome is a good idea. Maybe even a fake terrerium for it... make some art out of the art! .

I'm guessing that they will open it up for online and international sales soon.
