Wasn't sure where to post this but I wanted to ask you opinions - this print has been sold at auction recently for 15k usd at least.
There are also copies for sale for 10k gb on a website...
3k gb ? something fishy?
They also sold a Valium for 6k usd a week or 2 ago...
Thoughts?

Damien Hirst bargain on ebay? fake?, by Collection 1 on Dec 16, 2015 15:19:05 GMT 1, A couple years ago a lots of Fake valium and LSD were made. nypost.com/2014/01/27/calif-gallery-duo-cops-to-hawking-fake-damien-hirst-works/
and the same guy from ebay tried to sell me those 2 prints 2 years ago. They provide fake Eyestorm COA too.If I remember well the paper they used to print the Valium isn't the same as Damien used and also the colors of the dots aren't accurate. I can't find the thread but there's one somewhere about those fakes.

Damien Hirst bargain on ebay? fake?, by ak1 on Dec 16, 2015 15:28:01 GMT 1, Same seller had an Opium print a couple of weeks ago that sold then was re-listed and finally sold at below what these should go for. There are some very good threads on Hirst fakes in the old sales threads.

Damien Hirst bargain on ebay? fake?, by Hooked on Art on Dec 16, 2015 16:14:05 GMT 1, Wise to stay away. I looked into buying Opium. They contacted me after I had lost the auction to a higher bidder on ebay, who later decided they didn't want the print any more because of a tragedy... I nearly purchased but as soon as I said that I was awaiting a response from Eyestorm to authenticate they responded saying it was now sold.

Damien Hirst bargain on ebay? fake?, by ABC on Dec 16, 2015 17:48:56 GMT 1, There has been a fair bit of documented history on here from years back about the Fake Hirst Prints from Eyestorm. I thought even Eyestorm had made some kind of statement (I could be wrong) Prior to buying my Hirsts from Other Criteria a few years back, I looked at these too but ending up giving them a wide birth as it was too much of a risk to take. Didn't fakes also get sold at top auction houses a few years back?

Damien Hirst bargain on ebay? fake?, by Winter on Dec 17, 2015 12:01:22 GMT 1, Friends of mine bought a fake Valium a few years ago. When they took it back after having it checked by Eyestorm the seller didn't protest, just gave them their money back. Eyestorm have a way of checking if they are real. I had an Opium that I bought on release and had full paperwork. I eventually sold it through Eyestorm. I would never touch any of these without solid provenance.

Damien Hirst bargain on ebay? fake?, by cmc on Dec 22, 2015 3:05:46 GMT 1, Well guess what - the seller sent me a message, after my enquiry about the print. Saying the winning bidder has backed out and would I want it.
Asking for 10k too instead of the 4ish of the last winning bid.
Is there a way to report?

Damien Hirst bargain on ebay? fake?, by ladarrienne on Feb 25, 2016 7:11:50 GMT 1, I purchased a Valium print on eBay in December. I thought it was too good a bargain at $5,500, so I had it checked with Eyestorm. They confirmed that the print was REAL--so I got a great deal! All good
I spoke to a well known gallery dealer here in LA--apparently the prices for the Eyestorm prints are no longer in the 10K-20K plus price point--more like 4K--9K depending on condition and auction, etc. The reason they became more reasonable in price is due to cheap reproductions out there.
But a sure sign of the REAL DEAL--at least according to the experts I spoke to, is that fakes DO NOT have the "Fuji Crystal Archive" hallmark pattern on the back--only the real original published prints by Eyestorm have that. Fakes are just blank on the back. So if you're looking for these prints, forget the signature (always changing) and COA (easily faked)--look for the "Fuji Crystal Archive" on the back.
Make sure your print--or the one you want to buy--has that!!!

Damien Hirst bargain on ebay? fake?, by Zippy on Feb 25, 2016 11:51:33 GMT 1, It is easy to buy a roll of 'fuji crystal archive' digi paper and still run a fake on an Epsom or similar machine.
Just as easy as faking a COA or the actual print image itself.

Damien Hirst bargain on ebay? fake?, by ladarrienne on Feb 25, 2016 17:35:32 GMT 1, The LAMBDA process is for very expensive professional machines Epson doesn't make--you can't use that paper on an "Epson". It's not an inkjet. I've looked into this and I've seen actual fake prints right next to real ones--side by side comparison--there's not a person on this board who's done that. This isn't speculation or assumption (as this board tends to be) this is fact done with diligent research. ; this isn't "something I heard" or "a guy told me" or just speculation or just plain BS. The fakes DO NOT have the FCA on the back and you can't run FCA on "an Epson". The fakes are just inkjets on glossy paper.
Besides inkjet printers not being able to use FCA paper, there's a huge difference in paper weight--the Fuji Lambda prints are thick and substantial. The colors are very deep and saturated and vivid--almost 3D-like. The white is slightly more yellow on the FCA paper versus the fakes--which are a vey bright white. The real ones are very, very glossy--mirror-like. Fakes are glossy, but much flatter--certainly not mirror-like. You can see your reflection in a real one--you can't in a fake. On fakes you can scratch the color dot--you can't on real ones--they have a protective clear layer: on fake prints the color is ON TOP of the paper--as inkjet is just sprayed ON TOP of paper; with the Lambda/FCA paper process, the image is projected photographically: BETWEEN the silver halide color paper and glossy top layer--which is both a protective coating and artistic texture choice. This is a process for professional shops and it's expensive--fakes just aren't made in the process. CAN it be done in that process? Is it POSSIBLE--sure it is. But the fact is past fake's weren't--I've seen them, held them.
This is really all I can add to this topic. I've tried to do it in the most professional way possible and laid out the facts based on research. Take this advice or don't--no matter to me. I'm just trying to be helpful. I'm sure there will be naysayers and rude commentary--but whatever, I'll take that with a grain of salt because I know what I'm talking about--THEY DON'T.

Damien Hirst bargain on ebay? fake?, by .dappy on Feb 25, 2016 19:39:05 GMT 1, ladarrienne I do not believe that anything that myself and Zippy wrote was incorrect ... and I thank you for your incitful and informative knowledge between, or at least many of the ways between, a real and fake hirst print.
There are, as you say, many fakes out there and as people say 'caveat emptor' no matter who the seller is - galleries have been fooled!

Damien Hirst bargain on ebay? fake?, by ladarrienne on Feb 25, 2016 20:05:11 GMT 1, I don't want to beat a dead horse, so this will be my last post on this subject. I'd normally not respond, but it just irks me when people state as fact things that are simply not true. Or cannot prove. I'd normally not be so anal, but with forgery, the devil is in the details--and the minutia counts for everything.
DAPPY said "I do not believe that anything that myself and zippy wrote was incorrect ..." yet ZIPPY said "It is easy to buy a roll of 'fuji crystal archive' digi paper and still run a fake on an Epson or similar machine".
You're both dead wrong on both counts: No Epson printer, or similar, is compatible with Fuji Crystal Archive paper. Period. Here's a list of all FCA compatible printers to illustrate my point; all are high-end, very expensive machines: www.fujifilm.eu/eu/support/photofinishing/color-management
There are a couple of other ways to identify genuine prints based on conversations I've had with Eyestorm, Sotheby's in NYC, and another well-known gallery here in LA. If anyone is really interested in help identifying these prints, I'd be happy to help; just let me know how I can contact you.
Good luck to all!

Damien Hirst bargain on ebay? fake?, by Zippy on Feb 25, 2016 21:25:29 GMT 1, I will say the following and then bow out. I am not looking to row with you but you are making presumptions that are incorrect;
At work we have 6-8 digital / inkjet machines and we are able to 'adjust' and run all materials through them for pitch and presentation purposes.
We work closely with the manufacturers and run tests for them.
I can assure you that if someone wanted to, they can run that material on them. I do not think you should be posting any info on here that might help those who produce fakes.
I am not questioning your research on fakes nor should you be telling me what we can / can not run on out machines.
Carry on. I'm going in for a sauna and steam.

Damien Hirst bargain on ebay? fake?, by twist65 on Feb 25, 2016 22:13:59 GMT 1, Zippy is totally spot on. You can pretty much run any media on any high end machine nowadays. The Eyestorm prints were pretty easy to fake when they were released, and the way printing technology moves forward even easier today. If you are relying on a print having FCA on the back as your authenticity then good luck to you. I can see the attraction in the earlier spot prints but if I was buying another today it would be a low edition woodcut all day long, still available from source.

Damien Hirst bargain on ebay? fake?, by Harveyn on Feb 25, 2016 22:35:01 GMT 1, Zippy pretty much knows his stuff when it comes to printing. That said it would be fun to take him up on his offer just for a laugh.
I however know very little about printing. What I do know is given the amount of doubt surrounding these prints I would not purchase one myself even if Damien was the seller. The fact that prices have declined so much would appear to indicate that the market it agrees. I appreciate some of the decline will also be down to the number of spot prints the market has been flooded with.

Damien Hirst bargain on ebay? fake?, by Zippy on Feb 25, 2016 22:46:11 GMT 1, Hi Harveyn i am back home after a spin class followed by ultimate conditioning class. Only 4 in the 2nd class so no hiding! I have leant i am nowhere near 'ultimate condition' !
Anyway, i wanted to add that i use a very specialist printer in London who has large format flat bed printers. This means he can print on any material and thickness up to 6". We have taken doors off and printed on them and one of the work tables. Quality is great. It can also be adapted for thin material. I have overprinted on tissue paper for a shoe client.
