Catawiki Art Auctions , by Alpha Cap on Mar 12, 2021 15:25:17 GMT 1, I had various experiences with Catawiki.
Sometimes very good results, sometimes very bad, with apparently no reason explaining the difference.
Big ticket items don't seem to reach high prices, but I see absurd results on posters and open editions.

Catawiki Art Auctions , by avec art on Mar 12, 2021 15:42:08 GMT 1, I recently sold an item on catawiki. As encouraged by them I sent the item using a tracked and signed service. I posted the item, and it arrived at the correct address a few days later.
A week or so elapses and the buyer in France claims not to have the print. But I can see on the tracking that it has been delivered. I get a message from catawiki 'support' saying that they're withholding the payment to me as the buyer has not received the item!!
I've explained that someone at the buyers address has signed for the item, and I have clear proof of that.
So what does catawiki do ... nothing that's what they do. They don't even respond. Well of course they don't because they're sitting pretty. They've got my full payment to keep for themselves. The buyer appears to have the artwork, and may or may not have received a refund from catawiki. I've lost!
This begs the question, is there any point at all in spending more to have your item tracked? I thought the whole point in having tracking is to protect the sellers from dishonest claims. If it doesn't and all it takes for catawiki to withhold your payment is a simple complaint, then if I sell through them again I might simply send the item more cheaply and upload a dummy number.

I have had items "delivered" which turned out to be dropped of at a service station or neighbours.
Catawiki will respond - sometimes it does take a long time indeed.
Did you contact the buyer?

Catawiki Art Auctions , by avec art on Mar 12, 2021 15:58:35 GMT 1, I have clear proof. There was a signature on collection (this shows digitally), and my receipt shows it was delivered to the address given to me. I have written more emails, but no answer.
To me it shows that tracking is meaningless or pointless.

They are very busy, so sometimes it takes a while for a response - up to 2 weeks.
With solid proof of delivery I wouldn't worry about it.

Catawiki Art Auctions , by Dive Jedi on Mar 12, 2021 19:59:35 GMT 1, I've sold and bought a few there, never a problem. The only issue could be that Catawiki or their "experts" decide if an item can go in auction, if it has a base price etc. Never had an issue with shipment etc and I'm sorry to hear about that scammer. This crap was also happening on Paypal...user changes at the last minute delivery address and you've lost it because you get no notification of it. Therefore in your case, you are in a steel barrel. Tell them you call the Consumers association of your country and Catawiki's country. They'll release the payment right away. Someone tried the Adress Change scam to me on Catawiki. He's a member here too....
But Catawiki sends an email where to send the item. And keep track when you change your adress. So when the buyer claimed I sent it to the wrong country I had the email and Catawiki saw he changed his adress after his payment......

Catawiki Art Auctions , by esfer on Mar 13, 2021 16:35:15 GMT 1, I wish these scammers a lifetime of diarrhea..
This has happened to me a few times, and I can attest that diarrhea isn't the "D" word I wish upon thieves, fraudsters, and scammers.
Stealing from people that are trying to stay afloat by selling their prized possessions, during times like these, is low indeed.
Having said as much, I recommend the OP ask the buyer to file a police report for mail theft, as they are stating the mail was stolen.
This will often trigger an "I found it!" moment of recollection and clarity from the buyer.

I sure already did register to this march 24 auction as this is an Arsham exclusive one, I'm so looking forward to see how it will sell, but I think it won't go high as Arsham's multiples are not really on-trend these days...maybe the Dior ones will sell well but all others I believe they won't...

Catawiki Art Auctions , by avec art on Mar 15, 2021 17:32:47 GMT 1, I had never agreed to sell you my print. You were in communication with me in an attempt to buy it from me. I said very clearly that any sale of that nature I would need to do a full KYC as the law requires me to do so. I also politely advised that I believe the law also requires a customer to do the same of the seller.
Cash deals, and bitcoin deals are not how I ever wished to proceed, in spite of that you insisted that one of 'your men' were going to meet me. Then the next thing I know you're claiming some arrangement has been made.
Once you realised you were not getting what you wanted, you decided to become aggressive and rude. I could elaborate but don't wish to.

Catawiki Art Auctions , by polokino on Mar 16, 2021 7:10:40 GMT 1, I recently sold an item on catawiki. You should call the support. The same happened to me and they have reactive. I have given the delivery proof and then proceed to the payment.

Catawiki Art Auctions , by elisajafa on Mar 17, 2021 6:05:14 GMT 1, mattmma22 You are so right ๐ ! And you said "forums" (plural) in your post, then do you know other forums like this one where people can sell/buy art (contemporary, modern, urban/street, etc.) ?
@dmatt Ha ha sure ! Wasn't expecting that when I created the thread ๐

Thanks for your answer ๐ !
I barely use Facebook (was using it like 10 years ago) so I don't even know how to search "buy/sell art" groups on it but I will try !
In the meantime, if you know some of them, can you please send me the links ? It would be so kind of you and so much appreciated ๐๐๐

Catawiki Art Auctions , by Lroy on Oct 20, 2024 9:42:38 GMT 1, I bid yesterday on a signed nude photo of Jane Birkin, on Catawiki, and I got it. Yes of course, Lazarides will sell his Banksys because they are Lazarides. Yes of course, galleries always sell artists' works at a good price because they have a clientele, a reputation and a storefront.
But, please, stop citing us as a reference Catawiki and other galleries or online auction sites, it means nothing! We must react!
Catawiki and others are a bit for rednecks ( just an expression, please no offense, I felt it myself yesterday night ), or amateurs and the final prices mean nothing! If no one bids or outbids, it is certain that the artist's work will lose half or more of its value. Why do you want to base yourself on this? Yesterday I stopped the auction at 93 euros; Why ? Out of weariness, or because I didn't have complete confidence, especially because at one point I said to myself: do I really want this photo of Jane Birkin? There were two of us outbidding, a lost bored Belgian and me, a frog lost in the swamps of the internet.
A piece of advice therefore, do not listen to what is said, and do not underestimate or overestimate those who play on this weariness through pure speculation. It's all just wind. Who really wants to buy art today when every day an artist, a publisher or a gallery announces a new drop, hyped and... already obsolete...
