Question for the pros, by pklong17 on Jan 11, 2016 17:03:49 GMT 1, Dear Banksy Pros,
I have been poking around several gallery sites looking for one of three Banksy prints that I am interested in. I want to get a feel for their market and do my due diligence, before posting a WTB on the forum. In my search I came across an unsigned Monkey Queen with a very low number, one that should most certainly be one of the signed prints based upon its very low number. Is this a possibility or is there a gallery trying to sell a bogus print?
Cheers

Question for the pros, by tonys on Jan 11, 2016 17:56:01 GMT 1, Doesn't always work that way unfortunately. Sign/Unsigned prints at the outset of POW sales were haphazard to say the least and the numbers don't correlate in such a simplistic way. Then numbering became more ordered, so 1-150 signed, 1-600 unsigned. So a low number does not denote a signed edition.

Does it have a COA, if so ask PC to verify? Id also confirm number with PC to see if they think it shld be signed or not.

No, that's totally fine I have family members who have owned that exact print unsigned with number well below 10. At POW in those days the prints were all numbered and unsigned, and if a customer wanted a signed one they would just get the next off the pile signed by Banksy. Back then very few people wanted to pay for the signature, so actually it could be more likely that the lower numbers are unsigned and the higher numbers got signed as Banksy became more famous.
of course always buy a Banksy with with a COA.
