But I think it's so much better than that. That's art for you I guess. I am with you on this one Coach. Its well executed, a strong image well chosen with an equally strong message. The placement is relevant and brave and it has brought needed attention to the issue.
On the PR from Jo maybe he wanted to get the important message he was drawing attention to in the public domain quicker rather than him or her wanting to promote his work. It is a current and live issue. Maybe I am being naïve but I am surprised at some of the cynical views. I am not sure he needs the publicity.

I think it does lack his usual humour. It's not weaker for that in my opinion.
The audacity of the placement (central London next to an embassy with heavy CCTV and on a very busy road) makes it even stronger in my eyes.
And it's brought to our attention and got people debating the police attack on the camp, something I wasn't aware of. I don't think it got much attention in the press. It will now.

The press is out in force as are the ... what can I call them .... with deep pockets. They covered it while I was there with a piece of hardboard and then something happened, someone said something and the hardboard was removed. Lots of photos which I will put up when I work out how to do so. Get down and see it before the thieves take it away.

According to a local newspaper (from Calais), what the government has decided is to clear an area of 100m between the tents and the main road, not the "jungle" as a whole. This is where they are using the bulldozer, to avoid new constructions, and where the incidents on 5 January took place. This is the area where incidents happen as people try to board trucks before they enter the tunnel on this track. I don't mean to say that what the French government is doing is great, or deny the abuses and brutality by French police, but I think it is misleading to announce that "French authorities have been using bulldozers to clear the camp" without providing more details on what has been decided exactly. They have also started to build a camp to receive 1500 migrants and it should be done quite soon. No mention of that neither.
As mentioned several time, this is a complex situation, with different issues: police abuses and brutality (which have to be addressed and if proven, prosecuted), humanitarian situation for migrants who want to travel to the UK (France has enough money to provide shelter), legal and humanitarian situation for those who have or want to apply for asylum (same, they need shelter and support while their demand are looked at). Mixing all this to raise awareness is not the best strategy in my view...

I was massively surprised at how little attention the work got last night but then I guess most weren't convinced until it appeared in his site.
It isn't just a case of removing the board - it has been glued over the top of an existing board so to remove you would have to be cut out.
From the pictures above it looks like there have been further attempts overnight to get it off as the side of the panel has been ripped apart but I'm chuffed I had all the time in the world with her last night - and even some moments alone - just me and her

The child sowing the bunting for the jubilee; all his pieces about our over use of CCTV, are just two examples I can think of off the top of my head.

Just because someone says they hope the piece doesn't get destroyed, doesn't mean they don't care about the political issues as well.
But if you want an informed and detailed debate on the migrant crisis, a street art forum is probably not the best place.
Most of us can only give opinion based on what we've seen on TV or read in the papers... not many have actually been there.

You make some interesting points. And your recent use of "I am nothing, officially and unofficially , but I try..." on some of your comments has reminded me that it's worth taking a step back now and then, acknowledging that while Banksy (and other artists) can contribute to or comment on society and its woes, he does not have the final say. Nor do we. There are no definitive solutions or answers. You just try your best. Don't try to harm others and leave the world in a better state than you found it. Basically, don't be a dick in life (and I don't mean you personally Roy. I'm speaking generally). If we all try our best not to be dicks or screw anyone else over for our own benefit, than I personally believe life would be a lot nicer.
But this is just my opinion. I don't have the last word or all the answers. People can communicate and express themselves in many ways. Banksy is capable of putting messages on walls. He has a talent for it. Many of us will come on here and express our opinions on matters. Or use other social media. Or chat down the pub to our friends. Banksy is not the messiah. He is not a politician (that I know of?). He's a street artist. We won't always agree with his opinion, but while he's prepared to take the risk to put his message out there, it's his right to express himself. Any one of us could do the same if we wanted to.
There's no magic. Just paint and the will to express (and dodge the law).
I don't think it's fair to hold his efforts to such high scrutiny. When you consider what he does and how he does it, you have to agree that there are very few others that do what he does. You don't have to agree with him, but if it gets people talking, I think that's quite an achievement. He's not perfect (sorry Banksy) and he never will be. This is a person(s) with their own thoughts trying to express themselves. We get our say, he has his. As long as we share our ideas and thoughts, I think we can muddle our way to some solutions or better understanding of others.
Or if people just want to buy s**t, then please yourself.
And also, I'm vegan. That has nothing to do with this topic, but as a vegan I have to tell someone every 15 minutes.

I post pics on here that I find on the internet because I think people might be interested. Eg artists you might not know thread. I tend to think that the majority of artists wouldnt mind as I'm sharing their work in a positive way. Look at this, it's fab - would be odd for someone to say how dare you use my picture like that!
But occasionally I post other pics on here that I see without permission. It worries me sometimes. I guess I can always take it down and apologise profusely.
