Ebay/Paypal help please!, by thwaites on Mar 26, 2008 14:37:02 GMT 1, Hi all,
Just wondering whether anyone knows a bit more than I do about Paypal/selling on Ebay.
Question- If I sold something on ebay and the buyer paid using Paypal (with an unconfirmed address) is there any way they can put a stop on or reserve the payment once they received the item?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks much!

The sensible thing to do is only send the item once the funds have cleared. imo

Ebay/Paypal help please!, by xhitsthespot on Mar 26, 2008 14:49:26 GMT 1, In theory yes they can if there is a dispute of any kind. If the buyer makes a complaint via paypal and you have funds in your account those funds can be held by Paypal until the dispute is resolved. Be very very wary of sending to unconfirmed addresses as even with proof of delivery you can get shafted.

Ebay/Paypal help please!, by thwaites on Mar 26, 2008 15:31:43 GMT 1, Thanks for the advice everyone. His funds have cleared and I have already transferred them into my bank account and so don't have any money in my account. If this person was to make a complaint could the funds be taken from my bank account?
I in no way intend not to send the item in its perfect condition but I worry as they have no feedback and recently changed their ebay username. It just all seems a little strange..

My understanding of sending goods piad through paypal is as follows..
If the address is confirmed - send, no problems - just make sure its signed for.
If the address is un-confirmed - email the seller and ask to confirm the address of where they wish the purchase to go. Keep this email for safekeeping - for up to 90 days after the sale (I think they can claim back through paypal - up to 90days)

Think again. They can, will and do remove money directly from your bank account to cover a negative PayPal balance.
I am a PowerSeller on eBay and know a lot about PayPal!
I know enough that if I sold art on my account I'd never use PayPal.

hear hear...
if you're comfortable with paypal use em - do be cautious. otherwise - if you're in the uk - try or use bank transfer.
I have had (in the past and recently) problems with paypal and steer clear where possible.

Ebay/Paypal help please!, by banksman on Mar 26, 2008 16:50:03 GMT 1, DO NOT SEND TO AN UNCONFIRMED ADDRESS!!!!
I sold a Napalm a while back for £900.00, I sent to an unconfirmed address in the US, he SIGNED for the print and left possitive feedback.......then started up a paypal dispute saying he hadn't recieved it.
I gave paypal the TRACKING NUMBER to prove it was signed for by him, I also sent them a link to my Feedback proving he left a possitive feedback, and because his address was UNCONFIRMED he got a FULL REFUND and I was left £900.00 OUT OF POCKET!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ask them - they took £300 from me yesterday that I had withdrawn asking me to confirm my password and update some details.
If someone starts a dispute and you lose they will take money out of your bank acocunt no questions asked. It will be part of the T&C's.
Personally, I think they are a bunch of crooks....and many agree with me.

Ebay/Paypal help please!, by Deleted on Mar 26, 2008 16:57:44 GMT 1, what happens when you have NSF in your account? I set up a 2nd bank account specifically for eBay/PayPal purposes and withdraw regularly. Meaning that I have a low account balance in my bank account so PayPal wouldn't be able to withdraw funds from it.

Ebay/Paypal help please!, by thwaites on Mar 26, 2008 17:10:09 GMT 1, Really appreciate all the advice. I'm going to ask that they confirm their address through Paypal or pay by another method. I would really rather not get a negative feedback but I'd prefer that to loosing the money!
Thanks again nice people.

Ebay/Paypal help please!, by wildbill on Mar 27, 2008 5:45:09 GMT 1, Be Very Careful!!! Sounds Shady...
There's more to it than just shipping to a confirmed address.
The only way to be absolutely sure that you are safe is to follow the ebay/paypal seller protection policy perfectly. They're lots of little stipulations to pay attention to...... for instance:
Only "confirmed" buyer addresses in the UK, US, or Canada can qualify for seller protection.
The item must ship within 7 days of receiving payment and have full tracking in order to qualify.
For items worth more than $200, a Bill of Sale must be signed by both buyer and seller and be viewable online......
There's more, but I can't remember off the top of my head.....I'd strongly recommend that you contact Paypal to make sure that you've covered everything before shipping the item.

Yeah, I wouldn't really care about that though. I suppose they can also ding my credit card as well though. Although, that should be easily remedied by disputing this charge with the credit card company...

Ebay/Paypal help please!, by thwaites on Mar 27, 2008 17:53:52 GMT 1, Thanks everyone. I think I will go down the bank transfer route instead of Paypal although I haven't received one before. I assume its fairly simple and the buyer can't stop or reserve this type of payment?

Ebay/Paypal help please!, by angryboy on Mar 28, 2008 12:43:13 GMT 1, Was looking on the paypal site to see what the Seller Protection Policy was and from what I can work out I'm not eligible for Paypal Buyer Protection.
Does this mean that folk who buy from me haven't got any recourse if I stitch them up or, more importantly as I know I'm not a thief, the ability to stitch me up?
It's all too confusing.
