Charles Petillon 'Invasions' at Magda Danysz London Gallery, by 11 on Feb 15, 2016 22:17:42 GMT 1, From January 6th 2016 in London Magda Danysz presents the amazing series of Charles Petillon : Invasions. In September 2015, the French photographer with many particularities invaded Covent Garden with a huge white balloons structure which attracted thousands of visitors. He comes back in London for shows off his photos, witness of the diversity of his playgrounds. Charles Petillon designs images following a really specific protocol ruled by the analysis and under consideration of the place photographed. He makes a real immersion in the environment to create installations made of balloons link together shaping some real structures at the end. He evokes child memory, he also talks about disappearance, of nostalgia, of the fear faced with the weariness about things which were important yesterday and which are even not seen today. His structures, as light as invasive, fill empty or abandoned places proposing a new vision of them. Works showed in this exhibition are photographical traces of Charles Petillonโs ephemeral installations. Points of view that he has chosen propose us a visual experience and in the same time a reflection about the world. They inscribe longevity in Charles Petillonโs artistic language and embody the relationship between time and space. At the end photography surpasses the white and luminous installation which seems more like pretext in order to sublime a space. Charles Petillon gives an ensemble of clues stimulating the poetic singularity of the object to define one of the possible ways of reflection about our world. Like that our view is invited to know about a forms alphabet composing the first pages of a travel diary.

Charles Petillon 'Invasions' at Magda Danysz London Gallery, by 11 on Feb 15, 2016 22:49:11 GMT 1, This was the 3rd show of 4 visited on Saturday....I always enjoy the MD space as it is so spacious and airy, and the assistants are always lovely.
Im also sad to report that the Magda Danysz : The London Project is coming to an end - they vacate next week!!! It was only confirmed very recently so they are now in the process of packing up and moving out. It's such a shame but did run for 5 months longer than it was originally intended and was a brilliant and unique space with many visiting artists putting work up as a permanent fixture.
Back to the show in question, as the gumpf above states, Charles is a Photographer that has embarked on a series of projects creating these invasions that evoke child-hood memories and nostalgia........not too sure about that. I think from the photographers personal perspective they do as he used many sites and places that related to his own childhood, and with the introduction of his sculptures create a series of unique and calming scenarios. For me it was exactly that, a series of serene images of everyday (or slightly unusual) settings with the installations 'invading' the structures. the lighting and interaction between the space and the installations playing a key role in the way the integrated with each other to create these alternative views. Having some of the balloons in the gallery rising from the basement was pretty cool as you then got a sense for these 'sculptures' and appreciation of the concepts and their presentation.
