Murakami editions, help needed, by maxamaxa2 on Mar 8, 2016 16:08:54 GMT 1, Would like some help with this kansei edition, Murakami seem to spit out more prints than I can count and I find no real source of information whats out there.
Do all these three exist and are they all editions of 300 each? The names I have found is top to bottom "A red river is visible", "Fresh blood" and "Korin red river" but the info is very blurry, can only see anything looking like a numbering on one of them and the signatures looks very different between the two I can see it on. So more info on these would be great, perhaps even a photo of one all framed up and on the wall?
Any thoughts on Murakamis future? I must admit that he seem to produce way too much and a lot of junk, I like this particular piece but im not sure about the artist and his approach, but perhaps im just too new and uninformed!? Feed me with knowledge please

Murakami editions, help needed, by Matt on Mar 8, 2016 16:19:17 GMT 1, Sorry I don't know these specific prints so can't help.
In terms of his future probably no one knows, but Murakami is an established artist I would say, not a just a hyped phenomenon or one hit wonder. He has, and will probably keep, a nice place in the art world at large. He is in the top galleries, best museums, has global reach, and a distinct artistic process and vision
His OGs still command very high prices I believe, and would probably continue to do so.
However to say he is very prolific in his print work is an understatement. His minions turn out in as many colour variations of every image as they can dream of.
For example god knows how many "And then..." or "DOB" variants there are out there, only a handful of which still have demand for them.
Long story short not all of these thousands of prints will stay in high demand, although Murakami as an Artist probably will.

Murakami editions, help needed, by Happy Shopper on Mar 8, 2016 16:21:57 GMT 1, I think all his editions are of 300... they often come up at auctions in sets... his signature usually looks like the bottom one (not much more than a wavy line) He's had big shows at major galleries, including Tate Modern, but whether his prints are good value, who knows!? Buy if you like them.

Murakami editions, help needed, by maxamaxa2 on Mar 15, 2016 16:10:32 GMT 1, Thanks Matt and Happy Shopper Sorry for the delay. Was a little worried over fakes when there are so many variations and different signing and bad knowledge but think I got a quite good picture now. Im not really worried over the value, don't have enough for an OG and its not a big amount of money into a prints so it doesn't really matter. Interested in how the art world is responding to his immense output of print variations and if he is able to make quality prints with all time it takes to supervise or if the volume is taking over. I don't even understand how he have time for anything else than signing all day hehe Think it will look great in my living room and my wife have approved, hopefully I have a deal soon and I will see how the quality turns out to be when the time come. Thanks again for giving you thoughts on this.

Murakami editions, help needed, by ha on Sept 17, 2016 22:09:13 GMT 1, The Korin Red river is a reference to Red and White Plum blossoms by Ogata Korin.
The image references traditional Japanese art of which Murakami is an expert on.

Styles are very different now, but the understanding of traditional Japanese art permeates both.

Murakami editions, help needed, by maxamaxa2 on Sept 19, 2016 8:35:34 GMT 1, For a newbie as me, the biggest headache was the insane amount of prints and the fear of some being fakes. After some digging I found and bought one from kaikai. Now, with it in my hands, I really like the quality and depth of this print, it is fantastic on a modern technology level as a contrast to the breath of history as many of my hand pulled prints have. The only concern now is that damn round frame which seem impossible to source in Sweden hehe
Must give a big thanks to whiterabbitexpress whom arranged the purchase and shipping flawlessly, and to kaikai for superior packing!
I did also find a nice reference site (not all of his print but some at least with info) that might be of use to some one: www.sugimoto68.com/murakami-archive/
