I don't know Mr. B personally so I can't really speak for him.
I am, although, good friends with one of the participating artists. Of course Banksy rumors have been circulating but at this point, it's nothing more than hype for the project.
It would add excitement for sure, but even without him it will be an excellent display of artists from all over.

No, famous English street artist Banksy is not coming to Nashville.

Several posters stamped with the name Banksy were stapled across the city this weekend, causing buzz among street art fans.

But several international street artists are coming to create murals in town, and one of Banksy's works might have something to do with this Nashville Walls Project, too.

"This involves one of his most famous original public works," said local project coordinator Brian Greif.

From April to June, Nashville will open its blank walls to to six international artists from Germany, Amsterdam, London and Australia (they will be announced at the end of the month) to publicly draw murals on specific walls downtown — and it doesn't stop there.

This is the first wave of what will be an ongoing project. As more artists come later on, their canvases will be spread out in the city. And people are welcome to watch the artists at work.

"It’s in essence a free outdoor museum with very talented — these are fine artists," Greif said.

Local street artists will also be involved by assisting, collaborating and painting murals nearby the international artists. Funding comes from sponsorship and from the businesses offering their walls.

"This is a new form of visual arts that really if you go to most major cities now this is a huge part of the city landscape," Greif said. "It’s the biggest art movement since pop art."

Greif and fellow coordinators Tova Lobatz of San Francisco and Eva Boros of Columbus, Ohio, are also behind the Mural House in Belle Meade and the Mars Molecules sculptures at Centennial Park, created by Mario "Mars-1" Martinez.
