Is there a worse art movement than the kaws fan boy.

Some great old prints but this new Garbage churned out daily is pathetic

I hope art world turns on him.

I really like the black and white ones as well but I polled my kids and they are torn between orange and pink so I'll probably go for one of those if the price isn't too crazy.

i'm not a huge kaws guy, but i like that he constantly offers his fans semi-affordable versions of his art. that's nice for any artist to do. they're arguably overpriced, but they're within reach for most.

Not many of his limited figures from back in the day are numbered.

Star wars set - no numbers, pinocchio is the same with no numbers and so are many others he released pre OE editions. Chums are numbered and some others like the Companion 2006 Bronze figures, but not many of them were.

I paid something like $330 AUD delivered for pinocchio on drop and there were 500 made. At the time I had no idea on numbers..

Today you pay allot more and it's an Open Edition. Guess we could say the same for his prints. 8k USD to buy one of his latest if you were lucky to be chosen. But it seems only those willing to buy a whole set were given the chance too?

It was funny because when I met him at NGV last year, I did say to him that I couldn't believe how big he had become. I am stoked for him but i was also pretty disappointed that suddenly every "Supreme Boi" was into him. Kinda like when you have a favourite indy band that suddenly becomes commercially known.. 

And I'm talking Australia here... I'm aware he broke through in the States and Asia wayyyyy before.

he’s scammed you fools and me with this plastic crap to fund his passion for blue chip art. He’s made 100s of millions and continues to release every week.
His art legacy needs to be crushed.

Agreed on high performance shoes. There is a lot of R&D and specialized materials that go into high end running or basketball shoes so they should cost more.

Other non-performance Nikes, however, cost more because Nike can get people to pay a premium for the perceived status of the brand. Sketchers does inexpensive white label shoes for countless brands so in theory they could make the same shoe for two different companies and successfully sell them at two vastly different price points simply based on the name stuck on the outside label. Like a $30 shoe labeled Kirkland (Costco's private label brand) to sell because that fits with what people expect to pay at Costco and the exact same shoe priced at $200 labeled Ralph Lauren. 

Kaws can charge a premium for open edition vinyl figures because of the demand and perceived status symbol of buying it at KawsOne.com during the allotted 10 second window even though they could likely get the exact same thing for significantly less at the back door of his factory in China.
