I abandoned the idea after sensing it was unlikely they would accept my challenge for them — which involved formulating good-faith responses, requiring more time and effort than I assumed they were prepared to commit. Reading your comments pushed me to reconsider. My assumptions about preacher were unfair. And for this, I would like to apologise. __________ Before expressing an opinion, the exercise I always find most beneficial is to argue against myself, including by trying to place myself in the shoes of the various parties involved. Viewing things from as many different perspectives as possible generally has a moderating effect. It also allows me to shore up my own position, identify the weak links, fine-tune and nuance my arguments — or even abandon my initial position altogether in favour of a more rigorously considered one. So here's my challenge to preacher:Assume you are taking part in an intellectually-honest debate — but on the opposing side. Alternatively, just pretend you're KA WS, or representative of the artist. What are the different arguments you would raise by way of rebuttal, to counter and parry the two statements below? It’s the pricing now that’s shafted across the board. 8k for a print, and it’s like there doing us a favour. I would rather have the bun fight and not get one at £500. Prints used to be for the collectors who couldn’t afford originals. Now in a lot of cases collectors can’t afford the prints.

It's a pleasure to hear that. Especially because I am very conscious of the effort required — to generally step back and view an issue with cool detachment from a greater distance. And more specifically to view it from (and genuinely try to understand) the perspective of the other side.
What often happens with me is that my initial position shifts. Sometimes ever-so-slightly, sometimes quite noticeably.
Yet even when my position remains fixed, many times I still sense a softening in my attitude towards the opposing side. That attitude will evolve from what was originally a knee-jerk reaction. As a result, I become less intellectually lazy, less tempted to dismiss others offhand as ignorant, foolish, "wrong" or foul — and more willing to:
(i) listen, think further, continue engaging in civil discourse;
(ii) be charitable by giving others the benefit of the doubt; and
(iii) see others as fellow humans who hold opinions (or have priorities and concerns) that are simply different to my own.

But not all. I do not have a flat file, most of what I buy framed quickly upon receipt. I try to think my purchases through to separate the chaff.
I’ve resold 2 pieces of the 10-15 or so prints I’ve bought since joining this place, both because they wouldn’t make the wall, and both at a loss (Charming Baker and RAE). I made my money working, and in real world investments. Trying to make money flipping prints is laughable.
Art bought to be stored in a flat file to be resold does not make one a collector. Maybe a speculator or amateur art dealer.
Just my opinion, not looking to ruffle feathers.
