Removing Tape Marks From Prints, by Happy Go Lucky Chap on Mar 16, 2016 21:57:34 GMT 1, Has anyone here got any top tips for removing tape marks from prints? I have a few prints that have been damaged by a crappy framer using poor quality materials, with the yellowing from the tape coming right through to the front of the print, even although these were hung out of direct sunlight.

Removing Tape Marks From Prints, by Deleted on Mar 16, 2016 22:04:01 GMT 1, someone told me lighter fluid is the way, as it dissolves the glue then evaporates.
dont know if i would be brave enough to chance it without checking first, (i would really as i dont give a s**t, but i have to pretend to be all anal on here)
Talking of framing, on one print I found brown parcel tape had been used by my framer chap to stick the print to the mount, real f**king professional he was, and he was part of some framing guild, i asked him for posh framing too with all the PH neutral s**t
wheres CG? he knows about this s**t

Removing Tape Marks From Prints, by Poster Bob on Mar 17, 2016 0:39:34 GMT 1, Do not give your business to Graham Bignell. While he can work wonders with paper the people who will work on your prints are complete and utter incompetent novices. Go elsewhere.

Removing Tape Marks From Prints, by Happy Go Lucky Chap on Mar 17, 2016 1:24:54 GMT 1, I dont think this will work with brown packaging tape... It wont let the solvents come trough... The tape used was white, not brown packaging tape...but it must have been shit quality tape to leave the brown marks coming through. One of the ruined prints is on rice paper, the others on 300gsm.
I will send some photos to Bignells to see what they think. If all else fails, I will resort to @bren's lighter fuel, and post some before and after photos

Removing Tape Marks From Prints, by siveone on Mar 17, 2016 22:59:34 GMT 1, Hairdryer is good. Worked on one print I bought very well. But if the tape is acid free you dont have to remove it. If you are not sure or its bad tape bring the work to a paper restorer or book restorer.
Can someone please post a link to Zest or give some more products information. Thank you.

Panicked me for a start as it darkened the paper for a while but dried up invisible. Thanks for all the tips, will give Zest It a try. As the tape has come off and just left brown marks do you think the glue or tape remover would work best. I will try to get my hands on both for a double whammy, will be such a relief if this stuff works

Removing Tape Marks From Prints, by isurus on Mar 18, 2016 19:06:56 GMT 1, If you let me ask in your thread Happy Go Lucky Chap , does anyone know if I could recover this Revok print to its original color? It was framed a few months in a Ikea frame. The day I took it out with the intention of bringing it to my framers to get a better framework, I could notice the paper in contact with the mount had turned a bit yellow.

Leave it in direct sunlight for a day or two. I've know that to sort out yellowing.

Thanks for the advice.

Worth giving it a go. I don't really know, but the cause of the yellowing here might be the back board of the frame? Because the mount is supposed to be acid free, so maybe the cheap back board + the mount has transferred the print some kind of chemical process and got yellow !?
It's just a speculation... Will give it a try and let you know.
