Chipped glass auction , by chads007 on Mar 23, 2016 20:37:28 GMT 1, I consigned a low value non urban print to auction house which was framed with standard glass (how I purchased it). They chipped a tiny bit of glass in the corner but the print is unaffected I'm told. They're voluntarily offered £40. Is this sufficient or acceptable? I just hope the other print unframed is fine

Depends if that covers the cost of new glass! I'd push for cost of replacement personally. For a buyer, a chip or knock will annoy - it does me!

Chipped glass auction , by chads007 on Mar 23, 2016 20:43:50 GMT 1, They put cost of 'reframing' rather than 'reglazing'. I'll be consigning elsewhere so would need sorting.

They chipped a tiny bit of glass in the corner but the print is unaffected I'm told. They're voluntarily offered £40. Is this sufficient or acceptable? I just hope the other print unframed is fine Subject to any agreement to the contrary. Given that they've offered, and seemingly accepted (legal) responsibility for the damage, what should be acceptable is the sum it would cost to replace the glass. The goods should be in no worse condition than when you consigned it to them. If you had it framed yourself you should have a rough idea of whether £40 would cover the glass and refitting it. If not, get a quote, and if it exceeds £40, present them with the quote and demand the extra.
Alternatively, if they come up with a cheaper alternative to yours, but still in excess of £40, then you should, subject to checking the framer out, accept that.
Given that the sums are so small, it hardly seems worth trying to eke any "goodwill gesture" out of them, though that remains at your discretion.

Chipped glass auction , by chads007 on Mar 23, 2016 22:02:45 GMT 1, Thanks, that's what I thought. Though the print is small, it has a large window mount which covers a larger area. I've asked for a bit more, as I think £40 may be insufficient since also taking into consideration potential costs of sending to mfm who frames for me. I'll be collecting tomorrow, so hopefully they agree and it ends satisfactorily.
