Mr. Brainwash, by Viking Surfer on Mar 27, 2016 9:12:41 GMT 1, I used to like Mr.Brainwash and I get that he is essentially a critique on the art market in general and that's why he churns out so many pictures.... but does anyone think these will actually hold their value?
I'm curious to hear your opinions.

Mr. Brainwash, by natstan on Mar 27, 2016 10:28:59 GMT 1, If you want to make some quick bucks in the short run, get a print of his on release - other than those celebrity ones. He is usually a good bet, and prices escalate quite surely. Whether his works has artistic merit is another matter.

Mr. Brainwash, by Viking Surfer on Mar 27, 2016 11:50:42 GMT 1, Yeah, I'm not asking from a personal investment / flipping stand point, I just don't see any long term value in them, mainly due to the sheer quantity he produces (i know, i know, see Andy Warhol and Picasso for that matter, but he is neither).
I was hoping somebody was able to offer a differing opinion.

Mr. Brainwash, by Lroy on Mar 27, 2016 13:03:47 GMT 1, Just, per example, ( and without making any vexations ) , how can we call this art ? This Bowir homage is awful, so childish ...
Mr. Brainwash, by Viking Surfer on Mar 27, 2016 13:26:48 GMT 1, I think it's definitely a case of 'buy it because you like it' which should be the number 1 rule with all art really, if you like it then fair enough.
Despite my previous posts I actually own the Brainwash Hendrix, I love that image.

Mr. Brainwash, by Deleted on Mar 27, 2016 13:34:15 GMT 1, Brainwash is just an opportunist using well know images of famous people cartoon caracters to repackage and sell to idiots. So that he can buy more property in LA. He is an artistic whore who sells out to Coca Cola and other corps too.
He even tried to sue the festival in LA over the use of the words "life is beautiful"
Looking at sold art on Ebay.com, there is a lot of unsold Brainwash prints when looking at completed listings. Some people have posted on here how much money they made by flippin Brainwash toilet paper on Ebay but no one knows if they are telling the truth or even bid on the stuff themselves.
I want to remember Hendrix, Nimoy etc as they were. Spock in Star Trek not some fucking wig wearing freakoid made by a big nosed grinning monkey. (thas my polite version)

I think he will continue to produce vast amounts of prints in bigger and bigger editions and even higher prices, so in the long run I can see them dropping in value. He does do some nice work, but I would never pay too much for it.

Mr. Brainwash, by Whitefish on Mar 27, 2016 16:54:29 GMT 1, Many critique and hate on his work, that do not have the slightest clue as to what he is about. All they see is his print releases and make their judgment. There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes that make him relevant to the art world. I am fond of his oils. Here are a few rad pieces that were sold a few months ago...

are you sure that They are not from Mason Storm ? It could not be because Storm really paints his artworks. Anyway, Photoshop. It's as clear as a spot on the nose. Nor originality too : the coca or the burger in a medieval table have been done hundreds of times. Brainwash sells because he has connaissances but no connoisseurs, lol. Sorry my friend, no hate here, only love for art. The one where there is creation, no copies. Print market one day will go down as a stone in a well because of these kind of hypes, with childish subjects, because of too much productions. We just discuss my friend, I can understand that you are not agree with me. I have paint with quality colors from Italian pigments, I follow art since decades, people are already a bit fed up of Photoshop... I suppose.

It doesn't take much imagination to pay people to copy known paintings by Rockwell etc and add some sort of funny twist. Even easier if one has ateam and bounces ideas around.
Advertising in magazines and TV has been doing it for decades.
The Brainwash bubble is still afloat as long as he is making money from it. Is he in it for the money or for the art?

Mr. Brainwash, by minus on Mar 27, 2016 21:33:11 GMT 1, For the most part, unfortunately, I don't think they'll hold their value at all. MBW didn't seem to have any organic growth in the value department. Right out of the gate everything seemed so inflated out of market value to comparable pieces on the market and in my opinion the amount of pieces that he creates doesn't help either. (There's ALOT out there.) The market just seems flooded with them in my opinion. As per usual, as with anything else, if you like his pieces and buy them then great! Enjoy them but if you ever decide to unload them ESPECIALLY one of a kind originals I wouldn't count on or even hope for getting back what you paid for them.

#1 please don't mention Warhol or Picasso in the same thread as MBW. It made me wince.
I think MBW stinks. I think virtually all he's churned out stinks, there may be an exception but that would be similar to a monkey typing a great novel. And I'm sure he literally stinks as well. Across the board stink.
But that's just my opinion, hopefully rendered in a humorous manner so as to not piss anyone off.

Good detective work but the MBW camp just made an attempt at trademarking "Banksy" back in 2010 and was abandoned. "Banksy" only has one "live" Trademark in the US and it is owned by Pest Control for the use of video and film to protect the Exit film in 2010.

#1 please don't mention Warhol or Picasso in the same thread as MBW. It made me wince.
It was merely in reference to the sheer volume of artworks produced.
Of course you can't compare Picasso who mastered almost every art movement there ever was and even created his own; Picasso who has 5 entire museums dedicated to his work.
The point was that you cannot compare them, there are not even remotely on the same artistic scale.

Mr. Brainwash, by Black Apple Art on Mar 28, 2016 1:45:06 GMT 1, I believe as time goes on they will actually become less valuable, or should we say, you will find less and less people willing to pay for the MBW name. I have felt from the beginning that people who actually buy the work are in this bubble of a big prank that they just haven't been let in on. IMO time will naturally weed these people out as he continues to basically do absolutely nothing of significance and still is clinging to the last stretch of the notoriety "Exit" gave him, which hilariously ousted him for what he really was, as I think the Banksy and Fairey nods from 08 are now clearly seen for what they really were but I just love when I have people with his work tell me that they are just waiting for the day that MBW is revealed as Banksy.
I always say, no one can tell you what you do and don't like, so if it makes you happy and gives you pleasure then you have done well, but if you are even the slightest concerned about having the work retain or appreciate in value, that is a different animal all together.
A clever Banksy quote during his Bristol Museum exhibition
โItโs nice to see itโs been so popular but it makes me a bit suspicious. Throughout history all the great artists have been overlooked in their own lifetime and only appreciated once theyโve gone. Iโm starting to worry Iโm not one of the good guys.โ

Daniel Silk โข The number or Boards and Threads continues to fall as we simplify the layout of the forum.
Daniel Silk โข I hear a lot of Artists complaining about Instagram in the past year, how it used to be a good tool for Artists, but it's not good anymore, is that true?
anyaart โข For Brett Kern fans, I noticed there is a spinosaurus for sale on E-Bay. It's a limited edition, one of only 60 made. This is the rarest of his dinosaurs. I am not the seller. I already have the same dino purchased in 2016. I've never seen one up for sale
Daniel Silk โข Apology โข Sorry I have been offline this past few weeks, due to a very bad Fever. I'm slowly getting better, step by step, and catching up with things here on the forum on the days I'm well enough. Thank you for your understanding.
Boy Wonder โข I read that they were more or less nicked the same day they went up. Loads of fakes exist.
milou2 โข Would love to see any photos of Banksy's first exhibition at the Severnshed in Bristol (2000). Who was there?*
jirr โข Hi all, over here in the states. Pandemic put me out of business, need to sell this asap. Please send offers thanks so much
matgab โข Steven Harrington - Gotcha first ed for sale.
1nkling โข I can't help but think that a more reasonable tier for people who just want to support the work you guys do would raise more income. Then other tiers for those that want specialist benefits.
1nkling โข As soon as I saw the heading for the email I thought 'Oh yeah, I use that place a lot. I'd happily support it'. Not at ยฃ40 a month though. I have a paid sub for a Formula 1 site I use that is very active. They have a high uptake on subs at ยฃ12 a year.
1nkling โข Pricing on the new supporters sub seems a bit poorly thought out. ยฃ40 a month to have a pinned sale thread being the only listed benefit?
Daniel Silk โข The forum now has more than half the number of Boards than it had a year ago! As we work towards simplifying the layout.
ashj52 โข Hi everyone; does anyone know where I may be able to find a George condo prism print? Any guidance on price would also be much appreciated! I contacted AA, they said they cannot disclose whether there will be any further drops this year.
