Paul Insect "It's only a Dream" Allouche Gallery, by Matt on Apr 11, 2016 14:11:35 GMT 1, I'm also interested .dappy in the psychology of asking a man for his autograph. It's something we perhaps all did as kids when we saw our heroes, whether they be sports stars, musicians or whatever, but it's curious to me to go up to another man and ask him to sign a piece of paper. Do you display these? Does it feel like it's a piece of his art that you own? Do you do this with other people you admire in your life? I know many people on here feel like an opening/art event has been a success if they get the artist to sign something, I just never understood the reasoning behind it. A signature on a print/canvas is demonstrating that an artist created, or I suppose at least authorized, and stands behind their work. An autograph feels very different to that.
I am also of those who couldn't care less about anyone's signature on loose paper.
However I would assume it has to do with having a memento of "I actually met the guy / gal", a "I woz here"!tag of sorts.
Of course this says nothing about the quality of the meet...

I find this post quite arrogant. Fans and artists themselves have always collected signatures/autographs and sketches from artists. Have you not seen the banksy signature in invaders book? Getting flyers signed is no different, just a memento of the show isn't it? I don't see the point of questioning why people do this unless you somehow see yourself as 'above' this type of thing. Lol, especially when this genre of art is based on tags and graffiti. Damn artists signing walls and stuff.

Paul Insect "It's only a Dream" Allouche Gallery, by mutatis on Apr 11, 2016 14:21:15 GMT 1, That's an interesting point and not without merit. I would also be very disappointed if people queued to buy a print and then did not even spend time looking at the show, but it does not surprise me.
What I would say is if they had no interest in the print and handled them as implied then they would have been better off not selling them at all.
Artists and galleries underestimate the value of the print market - and customers - at their peril. You only have look at the revenue Kaws now generates from a drop. On another note, this forum used to be full images from shows and I'm not talking about reproducing price list images but actual shots of hung work in the gallery It seems no-one bothers these days for whatever reason which is a huge shame and makes the forum feel very disconnected. pollz66 I am sorry you feel that way but the people that take time to take pictures and upload them here (no mean feat ) and share them with us are to be applauded for their efforts. I have often attended shows and taken hasty pics with my phone only to find much better pics here. When I cannot attend a show there is often no better single place to see all the pictures than on a dedicated thread here. I would go as far as saying we are truly spoilt. Whilst there may be cause to bash other aspects of the forum, in this case I would respectfully suggest it is misplaced. In fact, it is not uncommon for members, in the spirit of caring and sharing, to apologise for posting new pics in threads that are already laden with pics.

I guess questioning things shouldn't be done. Apologies, I'll go back and try to get Martin Whatson to do some more tagging then.

[/a]
.dappy don't want to come across all negative and that, buuutโฆ just because they had slips of paper in-between them doesn't mean they were screen printed, I've got stuff off-set litho printed and they were supplied with bits of paper in-between (maybe something to do with the wetness off the ink when the pre-cut sheets are piled up for guillotining?). They're good quality tho.
... not negative at all ... I was unsure of the printing process and was wondering if someone new for certain ... they are very well printed and more on thick card that flyer paper or even thick paper

You have the girly-haired icon Eric Allouche to thank for Mr Brainwash's extended exhibition in NYC's Meatpacking district back in 2010. Cheers Monsieur.

It's nice work and reminds me of what you might get if Gary Hume ever cross fertilized a canvas with Judith Supine. (and yes I know they are both men).

But nonetheless, the above post comes across as very arrogant and patronising.

No showcards though but more arriving later today.
Really great show on all fronts IMO - the work itself, the space, the lighting etc well done to Paul and Allouche. Shame it's not on for longer.

Was it just for the opening ? Is there was a show ( as I read ) ? Is it still a show ? It looks like they ( but who ? Allouche ) wanted it to make it short. Usually an exhibition has 15 days life. Maybe the location was very expensive to rent.

Paul Insect "It's only a Dream" Allouche Gallery, by Dibbs 45 on Apr 11, 2016 20:58:26 GMT 1, The best part of this thread was someone throwing out there that rent for one week could have been 30k, which would mean 120k a month for that space. Either way, Allouche seems to have put on an amazing show. I know someone who has hired the place out and it was no where near that price. Did make me laugh too. It is truly an amazing show and the gallery done a great job. They could inform people with more info either on insta or their website though, but its a drip feed pop up, I guess. Hence the info on OGs. This doesn't help people who want to purchase not in London or the country.

Paul Insect "It's only a Dream" Allouche Gallery, by The Origin on Apr 11, 2016 22:02:16 GMT 1, Checked out the show today and will echo other people sentiments - a really fantastic body of work with a distinctive style and the exhibition space and lighting were all fantastic. Well worth checking out if you have a chance this week. The extra detail you can see up close is really impressive.
The chap selling the prints was extremely knowledgable, verly polite and went into detail about how the prints did not have the best packaging and to be careful when carrying the tube and removing the print etc etc
Also went out of his way to pack a show card in between cardboard so it didn't bend - these are very nice as well.
A shame it's only on for a week - best show I have been to in a while
