Just finished a fun book The Caped Crusade: Batman And The Rise Of Nerd Culture by Glen Weldon, good read.
I don't get why anyone would want one of these on the wall. Am I the only one that thinks they look like something from an action comic? Their zeitgeist seems to be largely a world of 9-17 year old boys and the things they hold dear. Action comics, hot rods, Mary Poppins, Ali, and so on with a twist in their magic Faile blender. To me (and I suppose others in the more legitimate art world as the toll takers seem to approve) they make it work - yes it has a retro feel but doing retro right ain't all that easy. If one grew up with The Amazing Colossal Man, The 50ft Woman, King Kong, Mad Magazine, Batman, GTOs and Camaros, Necco Wafers, Pez all mixed up with adolescent hormones their work strikes a nerve.
