framing a print with glitter on it, by james10 on Apr 2, 2016 14:46:11 GMT 1, Hi all, this is a technical question from a newbie, so to many of you this might sound stupid How do you frame a print with glitter on it? Would the glitter stick to the glass, so you need to leave some space between the print and the glass? thanks

framing a print with glitter on it, by NYart on Apr 2, 2016 14:53:02 GMT 1, You actually always want to leave space between the glass and the print, otherwise you can have a whole range of damage done to the print. The print can stick to the glass and you'll end up ripping ink off if/when you remove it from the frame. You can order framing spacers online or I find them locally at hobby lobby craft store. They stick to the glass and leave 1/16, 1/8, or 1/4 inch between the glass and the print.

framing a print with glitter on it, by NYart on Apr 2, 2016 15:01:14 GMT 1, Also in case you aren't aware, make sure anything your using in the frame, whether it is spacers, mounting corners, backboards/mountboard etc, that it is acid free. Unless it specifies it most likely has an acidic pH that will over time discolor your print.

Bring it to a reputable framer and have them frame it in the same style as a pastel with a "drop" theyll know exactky what that means and although expensive choose masterpiece Acrylic not gkass not preservation acrylic thatll act almost like a magnet and pull at the glitter so spend the extra and go for meusuem /masterpiece acrylic.
This will display beautifully and protect the piece properly and perfectly.

In my first thread in this forum I asked for some general tips, as I always loved urban art but never owned a piece. Many users replied to that; the most common advices that came out were: -Dont buy art just to follow the hype; -dont buy pieces trying to make money out of them; -buy only art you would hang on your wall. Wait for months, even years before buying something, but do it only if you are in love with it.
And that is what I have done so far..
Thanks guys

framing a print with glitter on it, by NYart on Apr 2, 2016 19:12:10 GMT 1, Just because it hasn't been said here ... I think one of the jobs a mount/matte can do is to separate art from the glass of a frame
Yeah a mat on top of the print would do the job of a spacer, just make sure it's acid free.

Those are the clear 1/16 inch I use but they come thicker and in different sizes.

framing a print with glitter on it, by Trevorm on Jul 18, 2016 14:38:46 GMT 1, I have an Eine Art Deco which has lots of glitter on every letter (except the W, obviously!). Gary - MFM, solved the possible problem of glitter becoming detached by providing an approximately ?20mm black spacer between the print and the glass, each of the 4 pieces complete with it's own application of glitter.
The print is a delight anyway but the light addition of glitter to the spacers enhances the effect and removes the worry that any shedding will show. I have this print in my office and am happy to report that the glitter situation is not an issue even after a couple of years.
