Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by rusty1986 on Dec 11, 2007 17:22:04 GMT 1, "Glitter is a signed edition of only 30. Each is basically a complete one off. ยฃ350 isnt really that much. Problem is I dont know where I'm going to put it or if the girlfriend will like it." However you want to justify what you just paid for it!
bill youre entitled to youre opinion and i respect that, but i think he's just trying to explain that all this talk about vastly overpriced prints isnt really true when you think about it..yes maybe in 6 months you wont be able to sell these for twice what you paid for them, but so what? a nice piece of work on my wall, which the artist has actually spent time with, for 350 is not incredibly over the top.. and noone should have to justify their purchase, their money, they can buy what they like!

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by rusty1986 on Dec 11, 2007 17:25:19 GMT 1, i disagree...the mau maus are ok,quite nice but i really dont think 350 is entirely awful for a signed, glittered, hand sprayed and finished edition of 30...i mean banksy charges more for a larger edition print and yet everyone pays out the nose for them in a second... personally i think i prefer the bast, best image so far and cant wait to get it! your comparing Bast to Banksy - like comparing Barcelona to Brentford IMO Banksy's the Godfather! the pioneer, the avante garde!!! i see what youre saying dave , but bast, banksy, zbiok...who cares?! its not about who the artist is its about what you like and whether you want it on your wall. i love a good few of banksys print, but some of them i wouldnt have anywhere near my wall...
and esp with the hand touches, i like this and it will be. im not trying to justify anything, im just saying that just cuz it aint banksy doesnt mean its shit and overpriced!

I understand where you are coming from. I just think POW may be taking advantage of people a bit here due to the massive bun fight that is going on right now to get these prints. I paid 425 for a signed Banksy...

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by valeha on Dec 11, 2007 17:31:35 GMT 1, POW are obviously pissed off at selling prints at decent prices - ie 425 for a signed trolleys - so some plonker can go and make a grand off them, they're selling them at inflated prices bcoz they don't want that same plonker making any money - I remember reading once on the pow site, or through the email something along the lines of "we know how much these are worth but Banksy wants to keep the prices down" I guess Faile and Bast don't really care bout keeping their prices down. It's all relative.
Anyway - I'm happy with mine, if it's not your cup of tea (not to anyone in particular but can't seem to express myself very well) then so be it.
Bring on the next release!!!

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by rusty1986 on Dec 11, 2007 17:32:58 GMT 1, well said loucastel...
bill - i do think youre right in some ways...i think the blu and the eric where a bit steep for what they are, and i think thats showed as they havent sold out.. perhaps the regular editions of the bast & aiko where also a bit steep...
but the brookes were fairly price and i think the hand finished aiko and basts were too..
i paid the same for my trolleys...which i was happy to pay at the time...its a nice image too...so buy what you like, as always, is the message i guess! got yours delivered yet? cant wait to see it in the flesh!
oh and +1 vahela!

I'm surprised that you think prices are irelevant. I bought most of my banksys at reasonable prices... nothing over ยฃ150. These prints are going for crazy prices. It's arguable wether they are 'worth' it. I for one can't afford this crazed 'trump card' poster game anymore.

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by Deleted on Dec 11, 2007 17:34:30 GMT 1, Guys, I know the prices aren't what they used to be but I think we have to keep in mind the greater good here. I've only started collecting summer of 2006 and recently joined the forum this past summer. From what I can tell, no artist, gallery or collective has ever sponsored an event where all proceeds went to charity. Sure there are charity auctions, but to have an event in a relatively high risk area? That takes balls. I guess what I'm saying is that if we could just once not talk about how high prices are (as it's all going to charity) and instead talk about the quality and coolness of the art, that would help 1) pare down the number of comments in the thread making it much more readable and 2) maybe spread a bit of christmas cheer.

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by G-Man on Dec 11, 2007 17:35:07 GMT 1, As I have said before... you cant expect the artists and POW to sell at a fraction of the market value then complain about flippers and people buying to turn a profit
I reckon all were fairly priced for the market
I got a Kelsey and a Aiko special
Lovely prints and no remorse

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by pezlow on Dec 11, 2007 17:38:55 GMT 1, Aiko and Bast are hardly flashes in the pan. Both have pretty long established street credentials. The Aiko special print and probably all the Basts will look absolutely mint in the flesh. I'm struggling to understand all the hate.
These prints also seem fairly priced to me given the amount of input the artist has put in to them.

Very good point it was only Banksy that wanted to keep the prices down i remember the email. It also must have cost alot to set tha ghetto up this year, not quite Oxford street rents but still. Logistically a nightmare, accomadation for all the artists flights etc. Plus the charity aspect, it only makes sense prices would be a little higher?.....

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by bill on Dec 11, 2007 17:43:19 GMT 1, Rusty- I thought the Brookes prints were a great price! Not yet recieved my Trolleys, but I can't wait to frame it and put it up on the wall. I am not getting down on what people like, but I feel sometimes people let there emotions get the best of them and buy buy buy.... Then they come on here to get some self fulfillment because they feel guilty about what they bought. Not saying anyone in particular, but I do remember a post today were someone purchased the Faile print without even looking at it and now wanted to sell it because he didn't like it and paid 400 GBP for it.... Now that is nuts!

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by Montubu7 on Dec 11, 2007 17:45:55 GMT 1, I am not really sure what people are expecting, pow prices have been rising at pow since the summer ( excluding Banksy as thats his choice to keep prices low & excluding the micallef run of 1000) pow are hardly going to drop the prices ( again apart from banksy) when the majority will sell either way.
I am sure that while pow care a little about the secondary market their sole purpose as a business is to sell what prints they can for what prices they can achieve & with a few exceptions ( blu/zeus etc) most stuff seems to go - resulting in a pretty healty business model.
Plus they will be also donating quite a substantial amount to a good cause this year.
I never saw BRP come in for flack with selling the D*face lenticular which most would argue were overpriced - at least not as much falck as pow are getting here ( but they sold!)
If you like it & can afford it BUY IT If you want to buy & flip quickly to make a few quid thats your choice but alo be prepared to maybe lose as well, thats the risk you take.
I dont really see the argument behind the price increases & comparing it to a Banksy print being ยฃ150 many years back, you could also that houses/cars/life/women were a lot cheaper a few years back also!

No flash in the pan indeed! but people buying blind, splashing 3-400 on prints they arnt sure they really like - thats fucking crazy, and against everything i like about this scene of anti-corperate - anti-establishment - anti money driven - all this started from free street art not prints that you have to fight to pay hundreds for.
Iv discussed this on another thread previously and made my thoughts known on this recent transition so wont bore you lot any longer!!! best of luck with your purchases...il pick my time!!!
Aiko and Bast are hardly flashes in the pan. Both have pretty long established street credentials. The Aiko special print and probably all the Basts will look absolutely mint in the flesh. I'm struggling to understand all the hate. These prints also seem fairly priced to me given the amount of input the artist has put in to them.
