Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by iwouldfollow youanywhere on Dec 11, 2007 17:50:35 GMT 1, Aiko and Bast are hardly flashes in the pan. Both have pretty long established street credentials. The Aiko special print and probably all the Basts will look absolutely mint in the flesh. I'm struggling to understand all the hate. These prints also seem fairly priced to me given the amount of input the artist has put in to them.
agreed pezlow.. Bast hand finished prints are rather special, so i'm really looking forward to getting mine.. struggling to see why people think they are vastly overpriced? until recently a colour hand finished Bast Bvlgari on his site was around $1100, so these really aren't too bad!

No flash in the pan indeed! but people buying blind, splashing 3-400 on prints they arnt sure they really like - thats f**king crazy, and against everything i like about this scene of anti-corperate - anti-establishment - anti money driven - all this started from free street art not prints that you have to fight to pay hundreds for. Iv discussed this on another thread previously and made my thoughts known on this recent transition so wont bore you lot any longer!!! best of luck with your purchases...il pick my time!!!

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by giiiant on Dec 11, 2007 17:51:51 GMT 1, The nice thing about these high prices is the amount of basket-hopping.
F5 for a few minutes and theres a high chance print you want will pop up.

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by fartofthestate on Dec 11, 2007 17:52:21 GMT 1, POW are obviously pissed off at selling prints at decent prices - ie 425 for a signed trolleys - so some plonker can go and make a grand off them, they're selling them at inflated prices bcoz they don't want that same plonker making any money - I remember reading once on the pow site, or through the email something along the lines of "we know how much these are worth but Banksy wants to keep the prices down" I guess Faile and Bast don't really care bout keeping their prices down. It's all relative. Anyway - I'm happy with mine, if it's not your cup of tea (not to anyone in particular but can't seem to express myself very well) then so be it. Bring on the next release!!! hehehe ;D Very good point it was only Banksy that wanted to keep the prices down i remember the email. It also must have cost alot to set tha ghetto up this year, not quite Oxford street rents but still. Logistically a nightmare, accomadation for all the artists flights etc. Plus the charity aspect, it only makes sense prices would be a little higher?.....
Great point, I agreed with you for a while but then thought don't SOS fly their artists out to Thailand for a three week stay and pay for everything, give a % to charity, sell the prints for a friendly price and still make a profit?

Just for the record I haven't bought anything today, well not from POW anyway
Of course it's crazy to buy something you don't like and I have no doubt that loads of these will end up on ebay etc. My only point was that they are really not that badly priced at all. The most expensive Bast is ยฃ350 - compare that to the cost of his prints from his own site for example.

if you can afford it, and want it on your wall, go for it, it will look immense in the flesh (i hope) and give you years of pleasure...if not, drop it..

Either you like it or you dont, it will rise in time of course dip shit , but dont just buy a piece for monetary values esp when there are people who want one for themselves!

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by seidbereit on Dec 11, 2007 18:08:27 GMT 1, If you buy a print and love the image what you pay for it is irelevant, hopefully most of the people on this forum come into that category, well done to all who have bought what you like.
100% agree +1.
Seems to be too much talk about flippers and what the prints may or not be worth in the secondary market and hoping the flippers take a good and proper shafting and not enough about where everyone's picturing their print right now.
Eric the Dog put where I can smile at it over my coffee in the morning.
Kitchen.
Good move by pow centring the image too IMO. It was distracting with it framed to the top. Great penwork.

If thats the case, then my suggestion is just dont do it... you'll be looking at upwards of ยฃ100 to frame it (which won't become part of the investment really), so will have a print that you have spent nearly ยฃ500 on and are umming and ahhing over... jump on to the ยฃ50 thread and buy a few there that you simply MUST HAVE... if you have to think twice, don't do it.

to all those getting a lil uppity...we were all once new to the print scene...and as unlikely as it may sound now in all the wisdom you have garnered...you may have idly thought I hope this doesn't turn out to be worth fuck all when I'm splurging a fair old wad of cash...so yes a lil silly to ask..but hardly course for a public flogging ;D

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by jnschicago on Dec 11, 2007 18:17:02 GMT 1, As long as this chain has become, I'm sitting at work and bored so here's my $0.02 re: high prices. The moment these artists came inside and started putting work on canvas/paper, everything changed. Remember, these artists were the ones who had no voice. They had to reclaim public space (from advertisers, etc.) to make their views known. Now their work is purchased by celebrities and hanging in galleries. It's a different world for them. I know I'm stating the obvious and trying not to be condescending but there's no going back. It's like the cool indie band who signs a major label deal and becomes the biggest band in the land. Next, we'll see the hordes of followers ripping off the aesthetic for fame and fortune. The best that can be done (at this point) is to try and use the popularity of the genre to shine a light on issues that need it (i.e. Bethlehem). For that, well done POW.
Am I bummed that the prices have gone sky high? You bet. Particularly considering that I used to go to the POW site just to enjoy the work on my screen and have a laugh. Remember, you couldn't give away prints like Toxic Mary. And so, I let them sit...at least a half dozen or more...for about 50 pounds each. Had I bought those then, I'd currently be writing to you from my vacation home on a lake somewhere. Oh well. I got in early enough I suppose. Early enough that I could still afford it and now I have a bunch of pictures on my walls that I REALLY enjoy (Banksy, Insect, Apish Angel, Bast, Vaucher, Hecox). It's been really fun and I've enjoyed every minute of it.
If the scene has been discovered and we've all been pushed out by flippers and hedge fund managers, oh well. What's next? I'm excited to find out. Any ideas?

Carlito. Is you Brain unique or is it from the edition of 100 that was sold on your own site?? Do you think it will increase in value? Is this anything to do with you apology brain edition that you sent out as an apology when your refunds went wrong?
Oh god im so confused, will this increase in value over the next four weeks (I cant afford to own it longer thatn that).
What do people think? Am I a brainless t**t if I buy Carlitos brain without consulting every member on this forum first?
Carlito, I will PM you re your brain. Is it still in your cart??
