Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by greeneny on Dec 7, 2007 1:48:02 GMT 1, "maybe listening to him would open your mind to more than just one side of the situation and you would see it for the disgrace that it is."
Why would you think my mind isn't open to all sides ? I've studied the issue for more then 25 years. I've a doctorate in Mideastern studies. I've been all over the Arab world and only just 10 minutes ago got off the phone with my best friend who's happens to be an gay Arab woman. Please don't tell me I'm close minded when people here are being told by the other side not to listen to me. What are they afraid of? That I may reveal something? And you say my mind is closed? The only disgrace is how badly misinformed so many of you are but determined to stand your ground regardless. But you'll figure it out I'm sure.

The reason people think your mind isn't open is because every time you are confronted with a fact that does not fit your view you just blank it and disregard it as meaningless. An example would be the quote bob gave from one of the founders of Zionism. You talk about "lies" and "misinformation" but only in the most general terms - you have failed to prove that any of bobs argument contains either. If it doesn't fit with your view you assume "it must be a lie" but never provide any evidence whatsoever to validate that assumption.

+1 spirit. You summed it up nicely there. Greeneny just because you have a doctorate or have a gay arab friend certainly does not make you right.
with regards to "people here are being told by the other side not to listen to me. What are they afraid of? That I may reveal something?"
...err nah afraid not. I echo what Bob said...read both sides and make your minds up for yourselves.

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by shogun on Dec 7, 2007 11:21:30 GMT 1, Its funny I mentioned Nazi Germany and all the 'friends of Israel' claimed I was supporting the Nazi's? it would appear also shogun that you have deleted the post where you asked if anyone defending israel was defending the nazi's? that, you fool, is why i wouldn't even spit on you. i've said many times i'm neither pro or con any side, i don't know enough about it all, yet, i do object to liberal use of the holocaust as a comparison. feel free to check back through all my post, i havent deleted a word yet alone a whole post, and you will clearly see why i hold you in such contempt. plus, to resort to calling me zionist, friend of israel, etc, etc it seems to me you have a very big problem with something and you are applying that to me. don't try to make your point at the expense of others and i may begin to understand you, until then my opinion stays the same. good day. I think you'll find the post is on page 27. The exact bit of text was "Its funny how people are defending Israel's actions. Is anyone defending Nazi Germany?" Quite a few others CC'd this into their message so I dont think it could be altered. My few words were Implying why are people on the forum defending the evil zionist ragime. What next defending the nazis? (the most evil ragime). Its funny how you went off on one. Others werent so happy when I mentioned the 'Stern gang' Let me say this one more time - the regime is the government not the people. You even called me a racist. What a joke. Can you tell me how I was mocking the holocaust?? Your twisting words not me. I think its best we continue via private messaging so as not to bore anyone. Or we can carry on like this.

For someone that has a doctorate in Mideastern studies how can you get your facts so wrong?! Maybe you need to retake the subject.

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by Gentle Mental on Dec 7, 2007 11:45:19 GMT 1, please continue here... this is very interesting... I'm learning so much...
to be honest, in Asia, hardly anyone cares about what's going on in the middle east other than the price of oil and how the iraq war's affecting the U.S. economy and subsequently Asia's economy.
i (and most people here) didn't find time or bother to care for this issue, because it does not affect us directly, it's out of our radars, it's not in our textbooks, news (barely), conversations.
The last big thing was Burma, even that was severely, embarrassingly muted (where i come from).
What our reports often miss out most times are the emotions, the raw anger, sadness and hope.
I do hope POW online will release some prints by of the local artists there... i believe exporting their art to the rest of the world is the best way to express and communicate that emotion.
It's something news (much less censored news) can never, ever do.

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by monstris on Dec 7, 2007 12:29:23 GMT 1, am so jealous that you've managed to go! have a great time and don't forget to take loads of pics- espec of the surrounding area as well as some more of the wall so we can see the pieces in context. lucky buggers
Off Monday morning too.... Hopefully we can, as Nu mentioned, hook up with the rest of the Banksy forum 'on tour'. We're hooking up on Tuesday so if anyone else on here is planning the trip out, PM away. If you want to stay in Bethlehem, the InterCon Jacir Palace is around $100USD/night.
Shame we can't do video here as I'm after asking a lot of the locals what they actually think of Banksy and SG. And I'll be heading out to other parts of the West Bank to see if the news has got around.... Who knows? The next Banksy could be a kid from the Balata refugee camp....
Will also post up photos of other areas outside Bethlehem...and what flies for graff/art elsewhere.
