sorry mate, maybe should have made it clearer. i was just saying that i wouldn't rule out another banksy release by christmas on the grounds that they don't have enough time to send them out.
all they'd have to do is add a message like the one above and they could send them out at their leisure.

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by ctc2 on Dec 18, 2007 6:37:32 GMT 1, My guess (and it is only a guess), is that you will see a rather large unsigned edition of the print released today. Seems like a good way to raise some cash if the goal is to raise money for use there locally. For the effort, it would be a lot of return for just running the presses a little longer while they are at it anyway.

you are certainly not wrong I was speaking to adam neate this year after his show and he made ยฃ760,000 in one night on prints, its mind-boggling. but fair play to neate, he has stopped doing them which is giving away a million quid a year for him Banksy could do a million a month on prints if he wanted to. I think there will be more banksys at the ghetto and that will flood the market and make the prices crash a bit. not a bad thing if you have to go the ebay route

Adam worked hard and long enough to deserve the cash. Its not an easy life, so when success does come (and it was a big surprise when it came that evening at elms) it is well deserved. Maybe Banksy will start releasing more stuff regularly like Obey? Maybe not though!

is this true? I was thinking that all the prints were so grossly overpriced but since it was going to charity I was ok with it. If so, laaaaaammmmme.

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by goatislander on Dec 19, 2007 23:52:06 GMT 1, I am not sure if anyone on the board knows for sure, though there is certainly a lot of speculation. The SG site as everyone already knows reads:
"Every shekel made in the store will be used on local projects for children and young people. Not one cent will go to any political groups, governmental institutions or, in fact, any grown-ups at all"
I think that it is the part that says "Every shekel made in the store will" that leads one to believe that only stores sales will go to charity. But then again that could be questionable as well considering that I have read from individuals who went to SG and said that no money is actually exchanged in Bethlehem. It is all done with vouchers and auctions.
I would like to think that everything sold in the store and online will go to charity.

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by darjeeling on Dec 20, 2007 4:50:00 GMT 1, The Ghetto isn't over - you can still visit!
But come on people, there's no more prints coming-I'd bet on that. Just be happy you had the opportunity t buy this stuff without having to queue up all night somewhere. Do you think POW really wants to be sorting out another 1 or 2 thousands prints on christmas eve? Why do you think they released them all so quick instead of dragging it out in typical POW style? Because everyone wants to go on vacataion and enjoy the new year. Please stop F5ing now and enjoy the holidays.

Banksy's Santas Ghetto Bethlehem, by monstris on Dec 20, 2007 9:21:22 GMT 1, These are my guesses, and they are guesses! Banksy Festival and Sales end will be retained for the POW site for spring. If another banksy is released this week, it will probably be unsigned and in an edition of 1000+, perhaps the dove print! Another Insect on wednesday, hopefully 'Bloody Gabriel' and another Eric the Dog!
Dove is pretty iconic by now so I doubt it will make it into print form unless it's released as an A/P or put out ala Kate.

Unless your name is Souleiman Mansour...he'll be coming away with some cash...but he's a well-known Palestinian artist and bigger than Banksy in those parts -- he's not some obscure chappie lacking pedigree...'Jamal Al Mahamel' is a different version of a painting that's hanging in the private collection of someone very rich in an Arab oil state.
If you've bid on Sameer Maywi's 'Handala', it's worth pointing out that it's a carving of a Naji Al-Ali character that's become very very iconic in Palestine, especially since the assassination of its creator in London as the first intifada was starting. More about Naji Al-Ali here: www.handala.org/naji.html
Personally, I think it's fair for all the foreign artists to give all proceeds to charity but for the Palestinian ones to keep some moolah. We've effectively invaded their land with our art...here's hoping that we're not viewed as artistic imperialists because after the buzz of the Ghetto has gone it'll be the locals putting their pieces on the walls (if they can afford the art supplies). Most people who visited have never been to the West Bank -- Bethlehem is pretty damn affluent in Palestinian terms -- its even got its own heirarchy in terms of old families, new families. The Pals that really break your heart are the ones living in mud huts who have to work for 100shekel a week on 'organic' farms in the Jordan Valley.

Thanks for the info. I just can't get over there in time due to personal reasons back here. I would love to have gone though, and I'm full of admiration (though jealous too) of all those who have made the trip.
