Vinnie Nylon And Friends 'Bodypop' - Moosey Art Gallery, by Moosey Art on Apr 13, 2016 12:44:42 GMT 1,
BodyPop takes a look at the female form in the twin worlds of art history and advertising or popular culture. A 'solo' show plus friends. In that, several invited guest artists have contributed pieces on the theme/subject of the image of woman. The collection illustrates the passing of the baton, visual remixing of old masters such as Sylvette David given an 80s twist with leopard print and Sottsass bacteria. Art informing and feeding the next wave, the trickle down effect into the applied arts and even back again are hinted at just as Lichtenstein plucked from the world of comics and produced mechanical looking 'fine art'. This look in itself has for a long time found it's way back into the mainstream media and branding on our high streets, thus completing the circle/sphere*? of influence.
Faceless lingerie models, the image of the domestic goddess, allusions to fetishism and strong iconic cubist portraiture contribute to the mix of works on offer from an artist with a growing reputation, client and collectors list as well as 31 years involvement in graffiti and street art. His first London solo show was funded by a very generous donation from a "well known yet secretive British artist".
Central to the pieces are references to the wider history of modern art, Matisse's oak leaves, Mondrian's colour scheme and a splash of Hockney mark making in print form.
The works range from assemblage and found objects, collage, screen print and paintings. Some pieces are on loan from private collections and will not be for sale.
