I have to say, I think the price check element of this forum has been a disastrous introduction. It's making this place more and more about money and less about the appreciation of art and graff. Very sad.

DRAN Artwork, VALUATION, by disappointed on May 19, 2017 12:30:59 GMT 1, Not a print but I am unable to create a thread in this sub-board so this will have to do..
Does anyone have a handle on prices of Dran original works now? Specifically an educated (rather than speculative) estimated value for the original artwork that his Free Speech print was scanned from?
No pictures needed, it looks just like the print, although the paper is a different ratio to the print edition..

Agreed. A classic image, nice size print with a few hand finished bits and bobs, and a decent buy at this evaluation. Assuming you are a Dran lover, of course. I own one and it’s lovely in person.

USD?
Agree, his prices are definitely rebounding and work is scarce. Those that bought during the dip, did well

DRAN Artwork, VALUATION, by virus on Oct 15, 2017 14:16:27 GMT 1, I just can´t get over the fact that I love the Learning to Fly image… Thinking of selling some prints to get it, including maybe my Dancer by MW..
What is a fair price on the unsigned Learning to fly print now? Thanks for input.

Depends if you are talking the colour or black and white ones?
As far as I know the colour (ed of 50) originally sold at Marks and Stencils were all signed. I've seen these being offered by few places in the region of £3.5k upwards.
I think the B&W ones were unsigned - think they would probably be going for around £1 - £1.5 k from what I've seen.

DRAN Artwork, VALUATION, by dexterbulldog on Dec 1, 2017 0:32:04 GMT 1, I made a comment on the recent I love you sale thread and then deleted it as to not be a derailer. They said these are selling for $8 or $8.5k and mentioned that was the level of private sales recently.
Even at drans peak these weren't selling for that so while I feel that's a BS benchmark provided by the seller, I don't want to ruin a For Sale thread with bickering by those with vested interests. Better to discuss here.
I recently sold mine for 4200 and I was actually offered 4500 just before I was closing my deal, but even before that sale closed it sat for 2 months, with lots of time wasting for a decent example. For arguments sake I was the last seller at that level and a new level has to come to fruition to pry it out of the sellers hands. So these are now $5k to maybe $6k for a desperate buyer or a prime example. I just don't think they would double.
Would most agree with this? I'm not salty even though I sold mine for too low apparently, I'm not bitter at the market, just don't think it's at the levels being advertised by the seller.

I commented on that thread mentioning your exact sale, and I’ve been regretting not buying it myself ever since. I think you were a very reasonable seller at the time and I absolutey agree that $8000 now is a stretch. 5-6k seems to be more reasonable now as you said. I’ve been after I love you and I’d probably pay a premium for a prime example...but 8k is still too high.

Art buying is all relative. Some people buy high, some people buy low.. I would pay $6k 7k USD for a Dran I love you that had either the green red or blue hoodie with color signature, but that’s just me.

Under the circumstances you describe, I would challenge the decision to delete what you wrote.
Your post was relevant to that sale thread. It was also based on first-hand, recent sales experience of a comparable artwork.
The issue comes down to whose interests should be given priority:
(A) Potential buyers here who might be inexperienced or otherwise unfamiliar with the market, and who may therefore be led into paying too much?
(B) Or a seller looking to offload for significantly above the current market value (and possibly hoping to exploit the ignorance or naivety of other forum members)?
If your answer is (A), then it would seem preferable to post where buyers are most likely to actually see your post and immediately benefit from it. This would be in the sale thread itself. In any other thread, such a post could easily be overlooked.
_____________
There's a huge difference, including one of intent, between:
(i) your original deleted post; and
(ii) someone who (out of pettiness or malice) is simply looking to disrupt a sale, or disingenuously play down the perceived value of artwork they wish to purchase themselves.

DRAN Artwork, VALUATION, by goingdownthedran on Jan 1, 2018 15:01:15 GMT 1, Hi all, and happy new year!
Thinking about selling a couple of Dran pieces to finance some building work. I'm curious as I've seen values seem to be creeping up.
I will make a proper "For sale" post in due course, but would love some input on what people think fair prices for the following are. I won't necessarily be selling them all. I love all three but two don't even have wallspace right now.
New Domestic Companions canvas (newspaper/mixed media) - bought at the "Marks and Stencils" exhibition in London, 2010. Framed from purchase and in perfect condition.

Exhibit - (signed edition of 100) bought from the same exhibition, framed from purchase but has a tiny wrinkle/mark just by the edition number so I can't say its perfect condition. I saw further up this thread, price estimate is around £1.5K - anyone care to differ?

Le Char (aka Tank Girl) (signed edition of 99, low number) - Purchased in 2011 from a forum member, framed and in perfect condition.

DRAN Artwork, VALUATION, by goingdownthedran on Jan 2, 2018 15:44:25 GMT 1, I've had quite a bit of interest in the Dran works via PM, but no-one wants to venture their opinions about prices (at least not publically).... tricky.

Nice pieces for sale.
Canvases of this size and medium from this show were originally sold for between £2750-3750 if my memory serves me correctly. There were smaller and larger canvases sold at the show at different price points.
The highest I’ve seen these go for privately is £8,000, for a slightly smaller one.
A similar medium but larger one NOT from the show sold recently at a Paris auction for around €17.5 k...
I know of other canvases from this show of less wall friendly images struggle to sell for £5k.
Most Dran collectors would acknowledge this to be a good example which is instantly recognisable as by Dran. It should command a price closer to the top end of the range I have described.
The Exhibit is £1500 +\- £250 Le Char is £600 +\- £100
However, ultimately the price will depend on how much you need the money vs how much demand there is for the piece.
This time of year traditionally has fewer people buying art, so demand is less and chances of a successful sale lower.
