Blu 🇮🇹 Bologna Street Art • Print Release • Art For Sale, by sapi on Mar 2, 2020 9:25:57 GMT 1, Brushstrokes 75 >>Anyone has an idea of Blu’s pricing for works on paper larger than 40 x 40 cm?
not exactly, but i do have some thoughts -
1. it should depend heavily on the quality of the work.
(a) for me, blu's iconic works are his giant murals and also his mural painted animated videos. the best murals are politically engaged, clever/simple/insightful, often with many small things making up a big thing (a superorganism). the murals are giant/uncollectible and so the sketches for the murals become the collectible works (and the prints related to the murals and the released video).
(b) i know of only three larger (~55x76 cm) iconic sketches that have come to market --
*this sketch (MS drawing) for the Money Shark mural in Barcelona (MS mural)
*a detailed sketch for the Cristo mural in Sao Paulo (Cristo)
(*) a detailed sketch (maybe black and white) for a wall in Grottaglie (cake)
(*) looking through Minima Muralia (&/or blublu.org), it is clear that there are a bunch more murals that might have detailed sketches (which would be amazing given the murals) and some of those could have come into the market as small drawings and as larger sketches, so there may be more.
(c) looking through blu's drawings (blu drawings) and having seen some other works for sale, it is also clear that there are less desirable blu drawings, ranging from the simple/not-iconic/not related to his mural practice (like the work currently offered on Artsy: www.artsy.net/artwork/blu-untitled) to the painful (ouch). from my perspective, these works should trade for significantly less than the iconic drawings regardless of size (and in Blu's case, should eventually end up less than a compelling etching or UV print)
2. i tried to figure out the value of a large iconic drawing at the beginning of 2018.
(a) at the time, i was told by a reasonable source with some knowledge that the small sketches were actively trading for between about 9000€ & 14,000€ (depending on the quality of the work).
(*) does anyone else have an update on this?
(b) there were no known secondary market sales of iconic large drawings so their value is hard to predict.
(c) Money Shark was €20,000 in 2010. blu's small drawings offered at the same time were priced at €3,600 (blu placed a premium of 5.5x on Money Shark versus the smaller drawings). if that same factor held to the 2018 prices i was told (5.5x 9000€ to 14,000€), that would yield a value of 49,500€ to 77,000€ (depending on image)
3. i am not certain of the price of the current not-iconic work on Artsy (www.artsy.net/artwork/blu-untitled), but i know similar works were recently priced at 25,000€ (and am not sure if they sold). similarly, the ebay asking price for his UV prints of Demos and Rennes are now 20,000€ (though unsold). this suggests that the above value (49,500€ to 77,000€) might be reasonable (though the market may not support it yet, not sure/time will tell).

Blu 🇮🇹 Bologna Street Art • Print Release • Art For Sale, by Brushstrokes 75 on Apr 12, 2020 3:52:50 GMT 1, I can't rest on why he stopped making art for everyone. with these prices it has become a business for rich He was never really interested to release any art to make money that's why he only makes murals and his pieces that he sells here and there are to fund his projects. His prices are high because there's nothing available on the market. there's no supply.
Apart from his stuff with POW, there's not much. if you take Rennes for example, his last print. it was made with studiocromie who at the time was organizing the fame festival so I'm sure that the print was made in order to found art projects rather than make $$$.
I for one command that sort of behaviour from street artists rather than artists who try to cash grab at every corner. Shows love for the craft. If you enjoy his art, enjoy it outside rather than in your living room.

at some point he will need money to pay bills as all of us... can't see nothing wrong on selling his art to people that loves what he does. Really he should take care to those people who are ready to spend (hard earned money) for his art, and may be invest that money for art project.

Really he should take care to those people who are ready to spend (hard earned money) for his art, and may be invest that money for art project. 1) i have nothing to do with Blu himself. There's nothing wrong to sell your art and make money. There's also nothing wrong with not being interested in doing so.
2) As for COA being essential. I'm a private dealer so this is my job and daily life. I won't go into too much details but answer to what your assesment regarding COA is yes and no. What's the value of a COA is based on who makes them? COA is definately not essential if you can prove authenticity and/or provenance. Not every artists has an authenticity body like Banksy. The majority of works being sold on the market are sold without COA. It doesn't mean that they're fake.
3) I know who is the owner of that piece is and i can tell you if you cared to ask and check there is enough evidence of not only its provenance but also its authenticity.

When i say that COA is essential it is because "street art" (i hate to call it st.art ) is mainly built for every one and it should be enjoyed in the place artist made the art. Said that as it happen frequently on this market (invader , banksy , blu just to name a few) some pieces are stolen from the street for being traded privately. So when i consider to acquire a piece of art from those artist i want to be 100 % sure that the piece in charge is made to be commercialised.
This "Blu" piece was gifted from Blu to his friend/filmmaker and it is for sale for half the price it is mentioned in the post above.
I'm a big fan of blu this piece is a good immagine and big dimension, the price to me looks cheap but is it made to be traded? (ex. banksy gifted print, i would never buy one)
needless to say this is my opinion and how i react when i have to acquire an artwork from a street artist.
i think also that if blu one day will change his approach to the art world this piece will be worth 4 times what the gallery asked me.

This "Blu" piece was gifted from Blu to his friend/filmmaker and it is for sale for half the price it is mentioned in the post above. I'm a big fan of blu this piece is a good immagine and big dimension, the price to me looks cheap but is it made to be traded? (ex. banksy gifted print, i would never buy one) needless to say this is my opinion and how i react when i have to acquire an artwork from a street artist. i think also that if blu one day will change his approach to the art world this piece will be worth 4 times what the gallery asked me.
