New Allouche Gallery opening should be a stunning show with this lineup. They represent some of the best artists out there, and are a great gallery to deal with. My jaw dropped a bit when I saw Bast's name adjacent to Michael Polimeni. Finally shredding the secrecy? Should we expect to see him at the show opening...I sure hope so.

He's not secretive on the same level as Banksy, he's been in photos before though not pointed out it is him.

So the thinking then is that pseudonyms make it harder to gain recognition in the broader contemporary art scene? Personally, I like the mystery that surrounds Bast. Is Dain really his brother? Does he work as a baggage handler? Does he really fall asleep with pizza on his chest? I understand why John Tsombikos stopped using Borf - he was caught red-handed and faced serious jail time. I'm a huge Bast fan and wish him all the success in the world, but I don't see how revealing his true identity at this point boosts his popularity. |

I've always been surprised that Bast has failed to garner the wider recognition that say Kaws or Banksy has received. His work is exactly the type of complex and weird stuff that the intellectual elite in the art market seem to praise. Heres hoping that he is successful in this maneuver, if this is in fact what he is aiming for.

I took a couple pics and will try to post soon.

Also, this is really exciting for Bast. Bast works are so substantive and I never get tired of them. I think it is only a matter of time for Bast. Wish I had bought more back when prices were more reasonable on his unique and semi-unique works.

The place was in shambles until almost 6:30, which was pretty bad form for their opening show. That said, I'm excited to see solo shows there though, the space is awesome.
