Scotland to Leave UK and Remain EU, by Daniel Silk on Jun 24, 2016 18:32:58 GMT 1, Do you think Scotland should vote to leave the Uk so it can stay in the EU?
I think that could become a massive mistake in the long run for Scotland. Imagine Scotland leaves the UK and remains in Europe, and in maybe 5-10 years time the EU project is abandoned.
The result is Scotland not in the EU and not in the UK.
I think the Scotish people need to judge what Union is the safest bet for the future? The UK or the EU.

I live near Aberdeen and it was kinda surreal in the city today, I only know one person who voted Leave and he is a Scouser. (That is someone from Liverpool for the benefit of our friends in the USA and indeed the EU

Scotland to Leave UK and Remain EU, by chads007 on Jun 24, 2016 19:32:21 GMT 1, There will be another Scottish referendum and they will leave the uk..they voted to be part of uk & Europe last time. We have taken them out, so they should do whatever they wish. IMO I think they should be a part of the uk.

Im not convinced we will vote for independence, until ystrday there was no appetite for it and i remain to be convinced there is an appetite now. The natives are royalled pissed off with months of canvassing, polls and voting, we've had too many in last two years, even the scottish politics bloke on Sky News said his mother is fed up seeing him on telly .
That said, there will be another fckin referendum and all that goes with it, the First Minister stated so today and whatever she says goes.

Scotland to Leave UK and Remain EU, by Ottomatik on Jun 24, 2016 21:58:53 GMT 1, Wait... In 5-10 years EU will be abandoned? Even for being an Swede, I'm not an "swede" it is utterly naive to think EU in this situation will give the signals to the rest of the world that European Union is an playground one can behave how one want in and then leave the mess. Be sure, they will make sure that UK will be the first and also the last country to ever leave the EU, the cost for this little show for some ego centric bored mis-fits will be payed for generations to come I'm afraid.
Today, Spain, Netherlands, and Italy have stated they want to vote to leave the EU as well.

Scotland to Leave UK and Remain EU, by Momo on Jun 24, 2016 22:40:58 GMT 1, Its trickier than all this guys... firstly France and Spain have a block on all smaller sub-nations gaining independent access to the EU as that would only encourage the basque and catalan districts/states which in their eyes cant be condoned.. so scotland Wales and Northern Ireland fucked for that.. but with all the misinformation that flew about for this referendum they will of course try it again when goung for independence.. as an Irishman our view is 50-50 being the only land border with UK with border checks reminiscent of the troubles and all and the quandry of what happens as there was all island cross border agreements which dont hold if north not in EU.. then the fact that we are UKs closest trading partners and no EU state can independently negotiate a trade deal destroys that.. not to mention Visas snd all the other shit that comes with travel and business and study.. in Dublin there are already huge Multinationals waiting to move their European HQs from London for tax reasons and eu access too which is going to cause the next property bubble here like a mini London... In total we are all fucked.. wait 3yrs let the belligerent baby boomers die and vote again.

Scotland to Leave UK and Remain EU, by Deleted on Jun 25, 2016 11:27:40 GMT 1, It's not a case of Scotland leaving the UK. It's a case of what can Scotland do to remain part of the EU with all of the benefits that Scotland gets from the EU. Plus weighing up the pros and cons of staying in the EU and being part of the UK and attatched to England. If Scotland had seperated decades ago we wouldn't have had Blair as a prime minister and the world would be a better place.
Some Scots like Salmond want their cake and eat it. He wanted to seperate and when the vote was to stay part of UK he scurried back to parliament in London and collected his MP salary.
There is always the possibility that Scotland and Northern Ireland could play smart and form some sort of alliance and create a referendum to leave the UK.
That would be possible and the Scots and Northern Irish could also create passports which give dual nationality or even two passports. A seperate Scottish or Northern Irish passport as well as the UK passport. It hasn't been done before but it would be legal.
After all Germany allows Turks who are born in Germany to have dual nationality.
Choo choo lets all ride the gravy train.

Scotland to Leave UK and Remain EU, by Hubble Bubble on Jun 27, 2016 22:43:12 GMT 1, Scotland has voted to stay in UK and EU.
Not quite true. Scotland voted to stay in a European UK. They were, apparently, assured that another referendum would be fair game if the UK ever left the EU.
Their issue is they don't meet the economic criteria for joining.
EDIT -- Sorry mate - just realised you are Scottish. You will know far more than me on this. My feeling is that Scotland will eventually leave the UK as a result of this nightmare.

Scotland to Leave UK and Remain EU, by Deleted on Jun 27, 2016 23:19:15 GMT 1, The EU won't survive without Britains money. Other countries won't make up the difference and all it takes is a recession in Germany for Merkels EU spending to be too much for the German economy.
Parliament is sovereign and has to approved the referendum and considering the Labour shadow cabinet resignations and Tory PM resigning. The effective way for Scotland and Northern Ireland is to form an alliance of British MP's to vote against approving the Brexit referendum result into law.
The Scottish First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon seems to be the only politician that has any integrity regarding this Brexit referendum.

No probs Hubble.
The Independce Referendum wasnt specifically EU membership conditional and it wasnt really discussed widely during the decade of canvassing, well it felt like a decade. The SNP did state that they would want another referendum if the UK voted to leave EU but it wasnt really a factor in Scotland voting to remain in the UK in 2014.
I honestly dont know how Scotland will vote in any new independence vote, too early to say, the nation is still reeling somewhat from last weeks vote. What I will say is that unlike Cameron, Sturgeon will only put it to the vote if she is guaranteed to win.
