Why has Banksy abandoned making art for the common collector?, by Wearology on Jun 27, 2016 4:17:49 GMT 1, People come here to talk about art. This a place to escape from reality. I personally have read enough about politics on here the past few months. Let's get back to discussing art and trying to find out why Banksy has abandoned making art for the common collector and has decided to only sell high end art to VIP's in the know the past few years.

Most of us are bored of Bansky too. Bear that in mind.

Most of us? Quite ballsy to speak on behalf of the majority of the forum.

Too much politics and not enough art. Whoever said politics was not boring!!!!
Edit: Coach you and I can continue our fight for common sense over a beer at upfest.....

Why has Banksy abandoned making art for the common collector?, by nex on Jun 27, 2016 9:40:00 GMT 1, It's pretty clear why banksy stopped publicly releasing prints but let's go over it one more time:
- the releases whether online or queue became bun fights of monumental proportions, ppl complaining they had a print in their basket and then it crashed or ppl complaining that ppl pushed in the queues.
- he couldn't win, our greed and pettiness made it a nightmare.
- he released a lot of prints over the years
- he could make more money from much much less hassle by selling to a few
- he used this money to find ny and dismaland
- many fans are pissed off with this decision, but you know
Rock and roll deal with it
Now just a reminder we're in the politics section of the forum, you want to discuss art, discuss it where it should be, be proactive and stop moaning

I wasn't questioning your statement, merely expressing surprise that you felt so confident to speak on behalf of the entire community, or at least the majority of it. For my own part, I have no interest in all the threads about the value of his prints. I have no concerns about there being VIP prints, though I do enjoy seeing them. But Dismalland is still a recent and exciting memory for me, so I'm certainly not bored.

Why has Banksy abandoned making art for the common collector?, by NYart on Jun 27, 2016 11:16:22 GMT 1, I get things began to get crazy around his releases, but people saying it wasn't worth the hassle to release anymore act as if he was packaging, shipping, and dealing with customer service himself.. That I could see it not being worthwhile for him. But distancing himself from his people, his real fans who aren't solely buying his art as an investment doesn't make sense.
I like to believe he's going to sell as much top dollar VIP crap as possible before churning out prints for the masses.

Why has Banksy abandoned making art for the common collector?, by Deleted on Jun 27, 2016 11:21:45 GMT 1, Alledgedly Banky did it because Banky wants collectors to buy art by Ploppi and other great artists on this forum who make affordable art.
Speeking thru their spokes person Banky says he is disgusted with people on this forum pretending his art is wonderful and crawling up his backside because his art is now worth millions. Banky also feels that scenesters who dream of being on a VIP list one day are whats wrong with stuff these days and the next big thing is flowered wallpaper.

Why has Banksy abandoned making art for the common collector?, by Dexter Bulldog on Jun 27, 2016 13:30:17 GMT 1, i'd hardly say he's abandoned the common collector. especially in this day and age. look at how many people were involved in boti and dismaland, and people today are so obsessed with their phones that they "collect" via selfies and instagrams and whatever. putting on month long public shows that are free or close to free allow the masses to still participate in this artist with unlimited mementos in the form of digital pics.

I agree Ruggs. Whilst I do have sympathy for those collectors unable to afford prints at there current prices (primary or secondary) what he does give us for free is events like Dismaland.

Being a relatively new collector I found banksy's street stuff to be imaginative and clever, it's made me laugh a few times. These overpriced prints however, even if I had the money there is no way I would fork out for them. It's really funny watching others talk and set thousands of pound price tags and then debate it endlessly, before then exchanging ridiculous sums for stencils on paper though, might be why banksy did it in the first place.
