Why has Banksy abandoned making art for the common collector?, by Daniel Silk on Jun 27, 2016 16:41:08 GMT 1, Idea.
What if Banksy set up an official Banksy shop in London or Bristol. With so many fake Banksy products around and fans moaning how they can afford or even get the chance to buy his art anymore, could the shop sell a range of affordable posters, Banksy books plus sell artwork from new up and coming artists and taking no commission.
What do you think? More ideas?
Idea.

Why has Banksy abandoned making art for the common collector?, by iamzero on Jun 27, 2016 17:11:32 GMT 1, It would fail. The prints have become nothing more than investments for most people... Not all but most. Otherwise WCP stuff would sell out straight away.

Why has Banksy abandoned making art for the common collector?, by Ruggs on Jun 27, 2016 20:37:24 GMT 1, I reckon it wouldn't be beyond Banksy going down the Gerhard Richter route and releasing an unsigned, numbered edition of 500 and still commanding a figure of around £5k per print.

Why has Banksy abandoned making art for the common collector?, by docean on Jun 28, 2016 1:29:46 GMT 1, In a way I'm glad he's not doing mass releases...it adds excitement to his body of work for me. I came across a gold AP GWB a few months ago and was so excited I could barely contain myself.
contrast that with someone like; Shepard Fairey. HUGE fan base, but I come across his work in galleries, homes, etc all of the time. Still really cool, because I like his work, but not electrifying like I just found a rare treasure.
that being said,
I am disappointed at the same time. I just started collecting a few years ago so I pretty much missed the ride to the top with his work. would've been cool to feel that excitement of new releases and prices pushing past where anyone would think they would (now no price surprises me)
