Show us YOUR - Latest FURNITURE BUY, by met on Jul 4, 2016 23:26:48 GMT 1, I'll kickstart the thread with a chest of drawers I recently picked up. I'm quite sure I overpaid but I fell in love with the set which date wise I place around the 1900's. They're well used and full of character. Also reminded me of Harry Potter a little bit [...] They're very tall and just pip me height wise at 2 metres. Sadly the photos do not justice at all to the warm golden hues that each drawer carries.
This is beautiful.
I would dismiss any minor concerns about possibly overpaying. There can't be many on the market, in this particular style and in your vicinity, to allow for a credible price comparison. And I suspect you'll also own the cabinet for life.
What kind of wood is it?
Do you know the significance of the numbers and letters on some of the drawers? I'm assuming they aren't just decorative but relate to what the cabinet was originally used to file.

I believe it is pine. Its been well oiled / varnished over the years which is why I think each drawer changes colour so beautifully with the interplay of light.
I think it was used for some kind of document filling originally as the drawers had no backs? I had my brother put backs on them all so that the drawers are fully operational.
I could of course be wrong about the documents, I'm just trying to think what could be stored that would require no backing?

Maker Unknown, no markings. Has been in the family since mid 1800s. Has survived "Bleeding Kansas", "Jessie James", and "The Dust Bowl".
Now, will it survive toddlers?

There's no actually art in the plan chest. I still haven't found a way of keeping prints in there, that I'm happy with.

Expensive to buy as the original owner but lots of interesting stuff pops up on 'the other place'

Just something I painted after seeing work by Felice Varini. If you stand in the exact correct spot it makes a perfect oval, anywhere else and it looks like a confusing mess
