I'll venture a guess that with a projector positioned at eye-height of the viewer (basically your photo), project the picture and paint.
Maybe 2 highly contrasting colors to ensure a clean cut between the line and the background ?

Looks like a great example of an old rope-edge - still shiny, no bleed through from the shockmounts. Hard to believe this is about 65 years old! Charles & Ray Eames were an unusual creative force, with an incredible list of designs to their name!

Then signed ones were available online, so I bought one.
Then 11 kindly picked up a signed one with a signed poster for me.
Then wearology got a US version signed and doodled, with a signed poster for me.
So I ended up with four!
But the last two are the really good ones!

They're quite a hard find. Took us about a year. They sometimes crop up eBay. I change things around all of the time, I'll let you know if it's ever for sale.
