Legal website with illegal art work, by longin on Jul 8, 2016 16:28:19 GMT 1, Lets say I got pictures of illegal graffiti which I would like display online under domain name (need to be purchase legally) which will represent name of the artist, eg. banksy.com. For some reason I don't wish to be connected with domain name and website content. What would be the best option to achieve this goal?
what about use a friend or relatives , but what if police ask them for source of the website content?
Any other ideas?
Regards

Welcome to the UAA! Perhaps try reading through your posts before posting, as I'm not sure what your trying to get at. Something about wanting to own a website but not wanting to. Perhaps you might want to try a new media legal message board if they exist?

Legal website with illegal art work, by maxamaxa2 on Jul 8, 2016 19:31:22 GMT 1, Depend on the level of privacy but register a proton mail (proton.ch) ant then register a site thru wordpress.com , they give you a subdomain and are quite good at keeping customer privacy. Avoid using normal mail clients who attach your ip, avoid using your own cards/paypal if possible (even thou wordpress is quite ok with privacy there is always posibilitys in lawsuits. But I think most get caught cause they talk to much irl and then it dosnt matter who owns the website, its about who made the painting Its a great library of damage done up for grabs. ps. If you want an own domain name most hosts have a service to hide your name, its not a good protection but at least people cant get it as easy. And offcorse, dont use a mail service that include your ip when responding to mails ps2. You should use a vpn to hide your ip when register and use the website! and, if you say "here is my new website ww.something.co here, on facebook or some other place where its possible to backtrack, all your efforts is for nothing. The best way is to do legal walls and stop vandalising others property

Legal website with illegal art work, by Feral Things on Jul 8, 2016 23:18:11 GMT 1, If you're based in the UK and your concern is about the legality of posting photos of graffiti then you might want to read up on the case of Marcus Barnes from Keep The Faith magazine. The CPS tried and failed to prosecute him for the offense of 'encouraging the commission of criminal damage'. He had published a lot of photos of train and trackside graffiti but given that this prosecution failed I'd be surprised if they tried to prosecute someone in similar circumstances any time soon. But obviously this is in no way any kind of legal advice on the issue.
If your concern is about a knock on effect on other aspects of your life then it's worth bearing in mind that Nug's 'Territorial Pissing' video very nearly cost him his MA Fine Arts degree in Sweden. Also, Good Guy Boris was successfully convicted in France and although that was for painting trains I'm guessing that it was the film and photography he did for The Grifters that led to the police taking such a keep interest in him unfortunately.
Although you can pay a small fee to have your domain registration details kept private it would be relatively straightforward for the police to gain a warrant which would require your hosting company to hand over your personal details. I would very definitely not get my friends or relatives involved; if you don't want problems then you definitely don't want them having problems either. If you're going to post photos online then I'd suggest at least using an Exif data removing application to strip out all the Exif metadata like dates and locations.
I'd love to see your photos if you do post them online.

Legal website with illegal art work, by RoboJ on Jul 9, 2016 11:40:41 GMT 1, The best way is to do legal walls and stop vandalising others property Hit the nail on the head. I know street art is street art and it's supposed to be a bit edgy. I'm sure Banksy didn't have the same ethos but the way I go about it is I don't want to piss anybody off so always contact people to arrange painting. I know it's not as 'cool' but I want people to like having my stuff up rather than being annoyed & wanting to take it down.

Legal website with illegal art work, by Deleted on Jul 9, 2016 14:14:20 GMT 1, There is no law against anyone setting up a blog or website which shows photos of "illegal graffiti"
Proving ownership of the website does not prove who did the graffiti.

Not sure that's true. Certainly for physical magazines, I vaguely remember a while back a guy running a mag for graffiti on trains being arrested for inciting illegal activity. I'll try and dig out a link to it.

Not sure that's true. Certainly for physical magazines, I vaguely remember a while back a guy running a mag for graffiti on trains being arrested for inciting illegal activity. If someone writes something like they were walking down the road and saw some graffiti and posts some photos. It's not supporting making illegal graffiti it's just an observation.
If an shows graffiti and tells people to do the same it could be encouraging it.
Plenty of websites and shows and films depict wars murders drugs and other stuff and reporting on illegal activity including graffiti without saying they support it,is just making an observation.
I think Banksy was a lot smarter and knew which places to stencil and how to publicise his stencils.
I also doubt the story by Saysell the copper saying he will track Banksy down and prosecute him.
Saysell looks like he is just saying that for publicity and to make Banksy out as being on the wanted list.
Can't be that wanted when his stencils get quickly preserved by the local authorities.
If the illegal graffiti regarding the OP's post is really bad or it's done in places where one can be prosecuted.
The easiest way to promote it is to have a team of people who just post photos without condoning it on thei twitter and facebook and websites and blogs etc.
An independant website could just be a record of this particular graffiti without any writing on the site about each photo in the same way as Banksy.co.uk did it.
