Turkish military - Live Coup!, by Viking Surfer on Jul 15, 2016 23:40:59 GMT 1, To surmise the situation in a simple way:
- Turkey's military does not answer to its president like many other countries. They serve to maintain the vision of the country's founder.
- The current president of Turkey has been pushing more and more islamist-focused laws (control of the media, things like that). This goes against the secular-focus of the country's founding.
- The military has decided the president needs to be removed, and have staged a coup to accomplish this. This is not unique in Turkey's history, their military has done this a few times in the past for the same reasons. Presumably, the military's goal is to put someone more secular in power of the government.
- The police in Turkey work for the government. So they are fighting against the military currently.

Turkish military - Live Coup!, by Jeezuz Jones Snr on Jul 16, 2016 0:28:43 GMT 1, Not good Turkey this could get ugly thing with all these problems no one seems to have any answers and it's only going to get worse, pray civilians don't get caught up in this.. Also whats happening in France on the radio yesterday it said 2500 French nationals left to fight in Syria, why so many? Wtf were The French doing leaving these communities deteriate? That question has to be asked? Out of 2500, 250 have returned and the French are pouring all their resources trying to track them down. So that's 250 guys intent on killing. It's scary shit. Yes we need to get rid of the radicalists with tough laws in European countries. If they don't obey them deport them, and none of this 'oh what about their human rights' bullshit.. It's just the radicals as their are billions of Muslims who dont want anything to do with this shit. The thing Isis wants is to create a divide and it doesn't help when world leaders say like yesterday 'it's an attack on western civilisation'.. Totally wrong answer, that will only cause more racism and hatred and that's what Isis want. They need to get in early and stop the radical side and how the fuck can't anyone jam all these brainwashing websites also? Maybe the powers to be want this shit to happen to create at and keep us all in check.

President Erdogan is abroad at the moment. Says he's flying back. But the airports are closed down. Special forces say it's treason and a small faction. Apparently President Erdogan has flown to Europe to claim asylum.
His claim was rejected by Germany, and his next port of call is thought to be the UK.

I'm talking about our own media. How terrible events such as this are used not just to unit people but to split them apart. To validity far right views

How terrible events such as this are used not just to unit people but to split them apart. To validity far right views I don't see how considering how opressive the Turkish regime is becoming against liberal values.
Or does media that report on opressive regimes and ideology suddenly become far right media or pandering to the far right?
I think the majority in the west do not want Turkey to destabilise and turn into a civil war so it is in the interests of most people fo Erdogan to remain as president.
At the same time he is having a huge purge of judges, politicians, military and other people he accuses of not being on his side.

I'm just surprised that so many of the 'civilians' rose up against the military (although of course that comes with a hint of propaganda).
It just shows the power he has there.

Turkish military - Live Coup!, by jmds on Jul 18, 2016 9:41:11 GMT 1, Anyone else think that Erdogan may have been aware of this in advance and let it play out for his own ends? There's a number of things that don't quite sit right: The coup itself was rubbish and they didn't even look to arrest some of the key players (including Erdogan himself who was on holiday in Marmaris). Also, one large group of troops gave up to a small number of policemen Some troops were told it was a training exercise Erdogan was able to fly into Istanbul safely even though it was under attack Erdogan has arrested 6000 or so plotters immediately after - there's no way he could have had known who the plotters were so quickly
I'm not normally one for conspiracy theories but Erdogan has previous with this kind of thing so for once I think there may be some truth to it.

"With fears rebels could be about to try to overthrow the government for a second time, which is likely to result in a Turkish civil war, troops have moved into neighbouring Cyprus and are preparing a rescue mission to save stranded Britons.
Defence chiefs have drawn up emergency plans and fully armed soldiers, together with members of the Special Forces Support Group, are ready to fly into areas popular with tourists and help families get home safely.
Hundreds of jets, helicopters and other aircraft will be drafted in to help the estimated 50,000 Brits flee the danger. "
