Can’t see where we said no swearing, but some members do overstep the mark with how aggressive they can be. For those who are on the receiving end it can’t be pleasant so there should be no excuses.

I am sorry. Yes, I could have written it better, but when someone comes outright to bash America, I won’t stand for it. We are not perfect…far from it. But more than a century, we have helped so many countries and the people found in them. Again, not perfect, but we try.

We supply countries after natural disasters, we find vaccines and cures, we support NATO and the World Bank, we give billions in aid and weaponry to countries like Ukraine.

We try.  And we try again.  We’re not perfect but America is a damn fine country.

And to note on history, the US supported Britain and free-France even before we got into the war. Once we were in the war, we pushed back hitler from the brink of crossing the English Channel, we pushed Vichy France back, kicked the Nazi’s out of Africa and took Mussolini out of power. Russia wasn’t involved until Hitler stupidly decided to fight a 2 front war. Yes, the casualties around Leningrad and Stalingrad (Saint Petersburg and Volgograd) were astounding because neither side wanted to give in and the massive civilian casualties, but that doesn’t count for the change in the tide when the US supported Europe and then entered the war.

As for the USSR, the earlier posting was correct that Afghanistan was their downfall…but who supplied the mujahideen to drain the life and money out of the USSR? Yep, America.

And lastly, yes, we dropped two nukes on Japan. They were not going to surrender until the very lst Japanese person was dead and all the Americans (and Aussies) killed to get to that point. As horrific as those bombs were (and yes we warned days ahead to get out of town), it saved hundreds of thousands of American and Aussie lives.  And ended WWII.

Seems to be a fine line between aggressive language and passionate discourse. 

"Once we were in the war, we pushed back hitler from the brink of crossing the English Channel" - this is just factually incorrect; Operation Sealion was cancelled as the failure of Goerring and the Luftwaffe to stop the Dunkirk evacuation meant that Britain was able to regroup. Guderian had wanted to take Dunkirk with his Panzer army but Goerring persuaded Hitler that he could stop the evacuation without ground troops. Once that failed, the British Navy was more than capable of containing the German equivalent. Hitler felt able to take on Russia as he felt (wrongly) that Churchill would sue for peace. Even if the Nazis had gained air superiority, an invasion would've been too costly.

"took Mussolini out of power" - Mussolini was deposed by the Fascist council and replaced by Marshall Badoglio; no American involvement there.

"that doesn’t count for the change in the tide when the US supported Europe and then entered the war." - again, factually incorrect; after Hitler foolishly decided against taking Moscow when he had the chance, and diverted to the south to try and secure the oil fields, the war was lost, as it gave Stalin the time to regroup and begin to trust his Generals again. The Soviet army lost around 9m soldiers rolling up the Eastern Front; in comparison the USA lost less than 500,000 in the West.

I'm not going to get into the argument around the atomic bombings (you're wrong there, too) as otherwise this would go on forever. Suffice to say, please read some books on the war and educate yourself around the relative prices paid by the allies. No one is saying that the USA did not help immensely, but your reading of what actually happened is just completely wrong. The Wehrmacht of 1942 would've taken and kept all of western Europe, and would easily have handled the Normandy landings. America and Britain were key members of the coalition to beat the Nazis, but without the Russians we would have lost. To say anything else is historically illiterate.

Wasn't it the soviets declaring war on Japan that was the major reason for their surrender?
