AN ART lover who bought a Banksy painting for £300 while at university was in the money yesterday after it sold at auction for nearly £80,000.
Gez Smith was at Bristol seven years ago when he used the last of his student loan to snap up Riot Green from a gallery.
Banksy has since become an art world wonder and his work has soared in value.
Staff at Sotheby’s were so concerned the painting was hanging uninsured in Gez’s home they sent a security van to fetch it.
An unnamed bidder paid £48,000 over the guide price for the acrylic and spray paint stencil on canvas depicting a masked rioter hurling a bunch of flowers in place of a petrol bomb.
A spokesman for Sotheby’s said: “This painting was certainly a wise investment.”
Gez, 26 was unavailable for comment yesterday.

I reakon that most of the people on here that buy the work have got a lot more cash than that dude, this scene is getting more outa my league as everyday passes
