banksy makes bristol eve press homepage.., by bristolmassive on Apr 26, 2007 21:09:46 GMT 1, damn that morons print I couldn't get my hands on Original sold for ยฃ198k
Bristol university art expert Michael Liversidge said: "I think his images will stand the test of time.
"The point about Banksy is that his images strike a chord with people.
"His work does have an aesthetic quality which captures the moment and comments very vividly and intelligently on contemporary society and its issues.
"Of course we cannot compare him artistically with artists such as Hogarth or a political commentator like James Gillray.
"But Banksy has a similar 'of the moment' quality - not being a conventional artist but one who has commented on our own times.
"He comments about the absurdity of events and attitudes as well as political issues and art sometimes, and his images are very figurative. They have the capacity to identify with the person on the street, because they are very accessible.
"But he has a wonderful sense of irony which singles him out and makes him appeal enormously to collectors as well as general viewers.
"I wish I had bought a Banksy a few years ago when his work was exhibited at The Severnshed. I suspect that he will continue to be a figure who people will talk about and who they will like because he makes them laugh but also makes them think - a powerful combination for any artist."
