Stockholm - ideas and advice please, by rjf76 on Aug 17, 2016 8:05:55 GMT 1, Stockholms lovely. I've only ever been in winter but heard summer changes it drastically - in a good way!
Go visit the 'Vasa' - amazingly restored ship which sank (think Mary rose) houses in a huge, nicely designed space.
Also for the family, Skansen. An old, typical working Scandinavian village with lots to do/see...reindeers etc....on a large island. Great for kids and adults!
Both in Stockholm so no traveling. Got lots of nice restaurants/bars too just which I'll dig out. Some amazing food markets too!

Stockholm - ideas and advice please, by maxamaxa2 on Aug 17, 2016 8:08:04 GMT 1, That all depend on what you like but I would suggest a visit to the museum of modern art that got an exhibition by Yayoi thats well worth a visit www.modernamuseet.se/stockholm/en/
Whats the age of your kids? Its quite a differens in activity's with kids of 3 vs 17 years. And in which part will you stay?
Always hard to recommend restaurants, but you can have a look at "Nosh and chow", "Mr French" and "Trattorian". "Smak" is less of a city pulse but a fun concept and good food, not a place to take yungsters thou If you are lucky to strike some good weather I would suggest to go for a boattrip to "Fjäderholmarna" and a dinner at "Rökeriet". These are all great and "relaxed" but quite expensive
I really enjoy the sushi at "Itamae Izakaya Sushi", for a lunch or a more "on our way-dinner". Its not a cozy place but great sushi in my opinion
Things to see and do depends on the age of your kids, but I guess the Old town is unavoidable. Take a Ramen soup as lunch at "Café Stiernan" on Österlånggatan 45

Stockholm - ideas and advice please, by Neate Michael on Aug 17, 2016 8:26:47 GMT 1, I live in Stockers, and did this for my brother's friend who came whilst I was away:
www.skansen.se/en/aktivitet/midsummer-skansen Skansen is an outdoor museum with lots of old Swedish houses that have been picked up and moved to their place at Skansen. There is also a zoo.
www.vasamuseet.se/en This is probably the best museum… Make sure you go, see the boat, watch the film about how the dragged it up. It’s worth a few hours of your time…
www.abbathemuseum.com/ A museum about Abba.
If it is raining and you don’t want to do more museums:
A good place to drink and have fun for a few hours is the Boules Bar: www.boulebar.se/bar-restaurant-petanque/
Other touristy things:
Gamla Stan – The island opposite Slussen where yoy get off. Old Town. Nice to walk around. You can go see the palace too.
Boat tour - www.stromma.se/en/stockholm/sightseeing/sightseeing-by-boat/?gclid=CN7kjrPPjcwCFRDhGwodfi0DTg
Stockholm is about 27 islands so you want to take a boat tour. They are a lot of fun.
If you have lots of time, and it is nice weather, the trip to the kings summer palace is lovely: www.stromma.se/en/stockholm/excursions/palace-excursions/drottningholm-palace/
Otherwise any of the other tours should be good…
Rooftop tour: www.takvandring.com/en/home
Definitely worth it if you like heights….
Stadshusset (City Hall) is where they have the Nobel Dinner, and it has a lovely view, it is central, and there is a fun old tower you walk up for a fantastic view: international.stockholm.se/the-city-hall/the-city-hall-tower/
A long walk:
If you start in town at Kunstragarden, and as you are looking at it, turn left and walk along the main street with all the shops.. After about 5 minutes walk you will be on Strandvagen, Stockholms most expensive street to live on…. If you keep walking along there, eventually (after 15 mins) you can cross a bridge, and walk straight into Djurgarden (right takes you Skansen, the Vassa, Abba Museums)
Djurgarden: If the weather is nice there is nothing lovelier than a walk through Djurgarden, looking at the big houses that are the Embassies in Stockholm… Once you pass the museums, it is worth checking out the tower: www.kaknastornet.se/eng/ There is a bar at the top and they serve good cakes!
sodrateatern.com/mat-dryck/mosebacketerrassen/
A really cool beer garden with a great view…
Restaurants (check they are open loads will be closed, and probably best to book):
www.tranan.se/ For some authentic Swedish food go here. Toast skagen is the most Swedish starter (or sill) and then you have their meatballs (which are not on the menu (its their little quirk) for main).
oaxen.com/ Oaxen Slip is the cheaper of the two restaurants. Nice view and good food…
nytorget6.com In Stockholm’s trendy Sodermalm, is this restaurant which is cool. There are plenty of bars around it, your trick will be finding one that is open!
www.eriks.se You pay for the view, but what a view… Have a drink here if nothing else…

Stockholm - ideas and advice please, by Neate Michael on Aug 17, 2016 8:46:56 GMT 1, PS: If you are going with the family, do not worry about restaurants, they are far more kid friendly than London, all have IKEA baby chairs, and room to park buggies.
And depending on the age of the kids you have Grona Lund, a fairly ok amusement park. Best to buy unlimited rides pass: www.gronalund.com/en/
They also have concerts on Thursday, Friday and Sat evenings, so take a look at what is on when you are there.
And lastly www.junibacken.se/en/ is very good for smaller kids. Inspired by Astrid Lindgrin's books.
It is near Skansen, and the zoo there is fun.
And if it is pissing down and you can't be arsed the cinemas show films in English here. Many of the kids films too. I'm taking my son to Secret Life of Pets on Saturday in English...

Stockholm - ideas and advice please, by DB on Aug 17, 2016 10:17:17 GMT 1, Really recommend island hopping through the archipelago...
Fjäderholmarna - Tiny island with a few restaurants on and a small wooded area to explore, 20 min boat journey from where the ferries leave and return. Fjäderholmarna is the closest island but there are loads, all with something different to offer.

The Vasa and the Icebar were highlights for me.
Oh, a bit naff, but the Viking longboat river tour was good

Stockholm - ideas and advice please, by Deleted on Sept 3, 2016 15:55:12 GMT 1, Got back yesterday from a week in Stockholm and the advice and ideas here were brilliant.
For anyone planning a visit anytime soon, I’d add that Fotografiska is worth a visit if only for the view from the cafe at the top (although there were a couple of interesting shows on when we went) and have fried herrings from the trailer outside the Slussen metro station, Nystekt Stromming.
We stayed in Södermalm which made walking to most places easy.
Thanks again for all your help. E

Stockholm - ideas and advice please, by samfrost on Nov 11, 2016 12:58:10 GMT 1, Definitely get a reservation to Riche. My other favorites are Brasserie Godot, Nosh and Chow for drinks, the new Haymarket bar is also a great spot for drinks as well.
There is also a great little contemporary art museum in Stockholm. It's free of course and never crowded.
