WARNING - Parcel Monkey, by rosac on Aug 29, 2016 10:04:37 GMT 1, Just a heads up following a recent experience with Parcel Monkey.
I recently shipped a print to a fellow forum member from the UK to US. I used Parcel Monkey who intern used Parcel Force as the courier. I take pride in keep my stuff in a1 condition and packaged the print as i have every other print, carefully in a rigid tube with acid free tissue and brown paper, with cushions at both ends. Sent tracked and declared the full value with extended liability.
Parcel arrived at final location crushed, and the print creased & folded all up one edge. I refunded the seller the money and pursued a claim with parcel monkey. long and short of it is they offered me an insignificant level of compensation as a 'gesture' but i had lost the claim as i didn't adhere to their packaging requirements. They insist that if i would have used bubble wrap i would have been successful in my claim. I explained that bubble wrap is not acid free and could in fact damage the print etc. Also that how i packaged it was industry standard.
I spoke to parcel force who said they could not help me as even though they delivered the parcel as Parcel Monkey were the agent i dealt with the claim lies with them. Parcel force did say if i went direct they would have investigated further and some as though they might have been a bit more understanding.
Parcel Monkey have done everything they can to make sure they didn't have to pay out on the claim and been totally unreasonable throughout.
If you are thinking about using Parcel Monkey i would seriously consider using someone else ideally going directly to the courier.

Sounds like bullshit to me. I've just read their terms and conditions and they wouldn't have a leg to stand on if you take them to a small claims. From the photo's, bubble wrap would have made no difference. Don't give up and take it further.

WARNING - Parcel Monkey, by jlf on Aug 29, 2016 10:23:21 GMT 1, It's amazing how often this happens, I had it happen twice to a print shipped from Faile by fedex, luckily it was direct so they just sent a new copy of it both times, but sounds like you had a nightmare with Parcel Monkey.
Not sure how theses shippers manage to get it so wrong, shipping tubes are pretty strong

WARNING - Parcel Monkey, by maxamaxa2 on Aug 29, 2016 10:57:59 GMT 1, I have changed from double tubes to one standard tube and one metal spiro tube (standard ventliation tube) for the valuable prints, seem to work fine this far and the weight is no issue it seems (always use standard inner tube, the ventliation tubes is not super clean).
For sweden fedex is the bad one, they have damaged two badly and delivered one i the wrong country over the last year. Terrible support and a "its your fault we have delivered it"-mentality (took me a week of nagging before they realized that they had my harland miller delivered to someone in italy instead of to me in sweden as they claimed.

It's not worth instructing a lawyer. Small claims are designed to be used by litigants in person. To encourage that, it is usual that both parties pay their own legal fees, should they chose to be represented. A lawyers fees will very quickly exceed the amount you are claiming.

WARNING - Parcel Monkey, by Deleted on Aug 29, 2016 13:41:40 GMT 1, Its all about the courier selected by Parcel Monkey or FL or whomever.
I purchased an expensive print that was professionally crated and stored, arranged for FL to ship it, they inspected the crating, said it was excellent and they duly shipped it. It arrived covered in size 10 boot prints and it was only the quality of the crating that saved my print. FL used a courier more used to shipping Amazon parcels than the likes of Fragilistics whom MFM used and both myself and the seller were astonished that they did so.
I have used FL often since without problems but I always ask who they are using as a courier.

WARNING - Parcel Monkey, by DrWhite on Aug 29, 2016 21:29:48 GMT 1, Fragilistics have been used a couple of times by close friends & they have nothing but praise for them. The last instance I've known of FL delivering a donuts - packed flat - the courier they selected left it unsigned for, outside a locked gate to the private driveway - in the rain. The print went back to the gallery in a very sad state.

WARNING - Parcel Monkey, by Coach on Aug 29, 2016 22:07:57 GMT 1, drainpipe is always a good shout.
I was going to mention this. For valuable prints, a cut down piece of drainpipe is very safe. Postie would have to take tools to it to damage it! But be careful of the burrs (is that the right word for the jagged edges) when placing the print inside the tube and taking it out. Best bet is cardboard tube inside the drainpipe. It's a lot of effort, but worth it if the print is worth a lot.

Had loads of framed prints from MFM all delivered by Fragilistics and no problems whatsoever. That said MFM's packaging is excellent but Fragilistics have always been excellent too and the packaging is unscuffed.
FL office folks are always very professional to deal with but they should never be using the likes of the now defunct Citylink to ship £20k prints. They did say that my framed print was insured, at my cost, and that i was covered for any damage but I wouldnt have secured this print again so insurance didnt really placate me.

WARNING - Parcel Monkey, by Poster Bob on Aug 30, 2016 10:45:33 GMT 1, I sent a print via City Link brokered through Parcel Monkey and it was completely fucked beyond belief and most likely dropped off the truck in a massive storm and then repeatedly crushed by a semi. I did win the claim and I won't post how I did it here but if you PM me I can hopefully guide you through it so long as you purchased insurance.

Thx Bob, my print was fine but only because of the mega crating that it was supplied in. Citylink fckers literally walked all over it, counted about 10 footprints in total. This crate had ever possible fragile, this way up, no step, signage you could possibly imagine but to no avail.
What i was flagging up was that FL are only as good as the couriers they use and in this instance they were s**te.

All they really do is collect it and then put it on a courier like DHL. Unless you are getting FL to crate it or pack it then its really a little pointless.
You can do this yourself and insure it these days via parcel2go or another alternative and the couriers collect it from your front door and deliver it. It is no different and cheaper.

If you have problem with their customer svc - get a hold of their management team - shouldn't be too tricky i just found them all via google. twitter can only go so far. Also - fwiw think about restoring the work - get a quote apply for damages and compensation.
good luck and keep us 'posted'.
