Banksy is Missing, Peace too! By Foreign News Desk Published: Sunday, June 04, 2006 zaman.com
The images that mysterious British graffiti artist Banksy drew on the “security wall” have become a source of inspiration about how to best to react to Israel.
It has been almost a year since the famous British artist Banksy began his “artistic breaches” on the Israel’s 700-kilometer security wall.
The “guerilla spirited” mystery artist, whose identity is unknown and who makes his statements via a spokesperson, sent messages of peace to the entire world from the “discrimination wall.” His pictures tell of the plight of the Palestinians.
While the new Israeli government accelerated the construction of the wall, which was deemed “illegal” by the International Court of Justice, Palestinians still await “peace from behind the wall,” the plight portrayed by the graffiti artist.
In one of the pictures that Banksy drew on the Palestinian side of the 8-meter wall, there is a very beautiful coastal scene behind the “breach” opened in the wall.
Another picture makes a strong reference to the life that the Palestinians are deprived of. In another picture, the mysterious artist, who was born in Bristol, wants to take a little girl to the peaceful life on the other side of the wall with the help of hot-air balloons.
Banksy also drew imaginary stairs on one part of the wall.
Palestinian artists, who want to declare the tragedy of their people to the world, are using Banksy’s “different” method more frequently now. Using the walls as a canvas, Palestinians want to defeat Israel through the power of art. The giant barricade, described as the Berlin Wall of the Middle East, is10 times longer than the destroyed Berlin Wall.
