Hockney is a national treasure and a great draughtsman, always loved his art.

Are the ipad generated 'paintings' printed on canvas? that would be shocking, if they are displayed on ipad screens then I suppose that is more forgivable.

I don't understand this at all. Hockney has consistently been at the forefront of art and the various media through which it can be produced and viewed. He is a world renowned printer and lithographer, has long experimented in photographic composition including collages with multiple points of view, was at the forefront of producing works by xerox and fax machine and now is working in the digital realm. Anyone who has seen his stunning (projected) ipad work at Salts Mill would never look down their noses at such incredible, vibrant work.

But why would it be 'shocking' to print ipad work onto canvas? What's the difference between this and say, Banksy having a Girl With Balloon stencil and spraying out 25 canvasses in a morning?

Art is constantly changing and it's artists like Hockney who have consistently not only explored but pushed it forward into new territories.

Shame I missed this as when I went on the RA site the other day there wasn't much left, so we've ended up with Easter Monday.

Ya lucky b*st*rds would love to see this show. One of the world's greatest artists. Whether IPad good for art or not you certainly cannot judge him on this. However I would value his decision to do it it over anyone's opinion here.

Do not mean that in a rude way and include me not being qualified to judge him either. Man is an artistic genius and deserves the respect not to judge till you have seen.

I was fortunate to get to the preview day on firday - can highly recommend a visit. In the flesh the colours are (as my friend said accieed!) mad on some of the works and the scale similiarly of some of the pieces is awesome. I really think Hockney and the RA have done well to get a really good 'flow; through the exhibition, with some earlier sketches and some of his sketch books on display which were a nice touch. My one slight disappointment was the ipad paintings - yes they are impressive, but there is a certain flatness or 2 dimensional quality compared with his other work - its difficult to explain until you see them side by side, but I didn't warm to them as much as his other work (and I really wanted to as cresdit to David for embracing new technology) I think some of them may have just been blown up too big. That said it is really worth the visit.

I know there are a few Hockney fans amongst us, including myself.

I recieved a catalogue today from the Goldmark Gallery, which may interest some.

They have a collection of original 1060's etchings from Grimm's Fairy Tales and Poems of Cavafy.

The later ones are very fine, imo.

The prices start at around £300 for unsigned, and about £1500 for signed, which seemed reasonable to me, but I have no idea of value of Hockney etchings.

Prices include delivery, frame and vat, apparently.
