David Hockney ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ Painting โข Show News โข Art For , by nobokov on Sept 13, 2016 23:45:59 GMT 1, I preordered the lilac one, but I'm not at all interested in displaying the book or stand and would be scared to even open it at that price. I know that it's not a practice at all condoned in this forum, but do you think that the book and stand can be easily resold to recoup the money spent on that half or would that thinking be a SUMO-sized mistake?

Not unless you find some one who wants one nearby so you can deliver personally, even then it would have to be heavily discounted.

Thats kind of where I am but for another reason
i would like to buy the book and the print, but i would like to display and look at the book, but at ยฃ1500 its not looking favourable
The edition of 10,000 is pretty big, and though I am no expert on these things, I don't think they will sell out and create any kind of secondary market in the short/medium term, therefore making MY used and abused book pretty worthless should the s**t hit the fan and i have to sell.
I think displaying it would be ok, but i know mine would get fucked, when friends kids come around and ask why I have a BFG book and can they look at the pretty pictures whilst eating a snickers bar.
I don't want to be a miserable f**ker and all precious over something that is intended to be read and say no, or clean your hands, or wear these gloves, or don't take it off the stand and read it on the floor.
So as i see it, i cant afford to take a ยฃ1500 hit on a book (though I really would like it for say ยฃ100)
Seems wrong not to display the book, doesn't it? all those pretty pictures locked away in a cupboard or under a bed

Maybe at a later date they will publish an unsigned version. Maybe not.

David Hockney ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ Painting โข Show News โข Art For , by dbnetherleigh on Sept 14, 2016 9:09:06 GMT 1, A very tough decision but for the size I just like the simplicity. I agree. Spent the last 48 hours deliberating over which of the four to buy, but on balance I think the lilac one (A) is the best balance of colour, form and a good example of the various techniques/drawing styles Hockney uses on his iPad stuff. Always really wanted one of the woodland/ tree prints but bit too pricey (more so now via secondary) so this these are just right image vs price wise for me.

This is what makes the art world turn... Our differences in the way we view art and what we perceive to be key elements of an artist's style.
I'm a B man myself so, to paraphrase Harry Hill...
"A or B? Which is best? There's only one way to decide! FIGHT!!!!!!"
Glad the forum is showing some Hockney love!

This question may bore some, I apologize, but I also have practical concerns as this is no small purchase for me.

This question may bore some, I apologize, but I also have practical concerns as this is no small purchase for me. ยฃ3,500 for a David Hockney #/250 print is a great price IMHO. You could buy all 4 of these and still have change against the pricing of his recent (admittedly larger) iPad prints. All 4 prints are classic Hockney style. If your worried about resale value and would maybe need to sell in the near future maybe this isn't for you. They certainly won't be worth any more then what you've paid until the edition has sold out. Having said that don't forget that the edition hasn't officially been released yet and its only down to Ruggs mentioning it here that most members even knew it existed. Again IMHO I think as soon as this edition is common knowledge, it won't be long until it has all been sold. All in all, they look great and I truly hope you can keep it, frame it and enjoy it for many years to come. Thanks for your input! And welcome to the forum. I don't ever plan to sell it, but who knows what circumstances the future holds. I hope to pass it on to my children someday.
Btw, I hope you don't work for Taschen.

As an FYI the Helmut Newton Sumo books also in an edition of 10,000 regularly sell now for about ยฃ3000-4000 and have sold for as much as ยฃ6000 at auction (retail is considerably more). So I'd not be in too much of a hurry to sell them. The Newton book sold out surprisingly quickly (about 3 years or so) I'd say the Hockney might take a little longer than that, but if you have the space I'd say keep it, as you'll probably do better further down the line.

David Hockney ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ Painting โข Show News โข Art For , by yorkie on Oct 7, 2016 17:44:57 GMT 1, Again, sorry Im late to the party in writing (issues with a passport, green card and all of my electronic equipment - excluding iphone being stolen!)
I ordered mine a while ago - I really wanted an edition of 1-250 but my favourite was the tulip one (251-500) and after a lot of soul searching I pulled the trigger on the tulip - edition B.
I believe that the book is going to be stunning. David H is from my home county - my sister loves his work and I never thought I'd be close to picking up a signed print for 3.5k pounds.
His work is stunning and the book by all accounts is a fantastically beautiful thing to look at - I have decided to have the book and print delivered to my sister for her to enjoy the book and I will frame the print and put in my house in the Yorkshire Dales....
So happy to have this .... believe it or not I even considered ordering edition D as well but couldn't really justify 2 books!!!!
So looking forward to November and getting the print framed.... congrats to all who pulled the trigger and to those still considering - DO IT.... this is not about 'making money' - this is a true great and believe me when this becomes public knowledge it will fly off the shelf (I read somewhere that the average age of a DH patron is 57-65!!!)
