I guess by using the term 'open edition', it gives him the freedom to do another run in whatever quantity as he sees fit. The only question is when, where and how many he is going to do it.

You can call that a smart business move. And perhaps the reason he launched this in conjunction with the show is because it's somewhat a retrospective of his career.

I hope those greedy chaps who bought 3 sets all get burned seriously.

The economies of scale of the iphone, star wars and a kaw's toy are far from equal.

Every edition is open until it closes (although its not an accurate measure because these things are established by bots, a new iphone 2 on amazon costs 1,200. God know how much and where you can find one in a brick and mortar for eg) every edition is open until it closes.

There is no certainty how many of these TOYS will be made.
But as you, I suspect there will be more chances to buy these

Delusion. More money than sense. Weekly pocket money for some kids. Association with pharrel. Etc

Its a shame they allowed buyers to purchase 3 of each model, i'm sure people bought a maximum of 18 and thats what we are seeing on eBay, buyers would be less likely to flip if they only had one set, they bought 3 sets so 18 total, maybe sell the other 12 and you have more than paid for your set. May as well play the system if they let you. 
I would of bought the three dissected to go with my 2006 15in set but looks unlikely unless they release more. So fingers crossed that either KAWS, the Modern or Medicom make a statement that this will be truly be an open edition and they will keep making them for the forseeable future. That would put an end to much of the flipping and the bootlegs.
I'm not holding my breath for another release or I expect they may have said it already to quell the rush, but the way its played out so far the flippers are winning. There are already quite a number on eBay being sold way above the purchase price.

order numbers up until 10800ish received the followup email to fulfill their CC declined orders.  haven't really heard of anything past that but this is just a general guess based on some people's info they posted.

Same with JPS Gallery. Also under impression it is unlimited. These two sources should be fairly reliable.

Oh I understand how it works. They eventually stopped making the star wars toys as well. They eventually stopped making the past iphone models.

And they will stop making these Kaws figures as well. Usually when galleries/shops/websites stop ordering them. But they aren't going to stop making them or shipping them (if they are already made) right after they released and sold out in a few days. The parking lot camping, long lines, multiple hour waits and selling out in a day are all marketing tactics that build interest and create free PR. It's a social media frenzy.

By creating an open edition and making it accessible to everyone, he is broadening his fan base. Believe it or not, there are people who will spend $200 on artwork because they like it. Not because it will be worth more in the future. I think its great that Kaws is doing an open edition for his fans. I hope everyone gets one!

The fact is nobody knows when they will stop production. But who am I to stop the hype train for all the flipper's out there trying to convince everyone that they won't get one.

In regards to Faile I personally wouldn't put him and Kaws in the same camp.

Hey man, I sincerely hope that you are correct in your speculation and many more of these are made available in the next couple of months while this exhibition is still going.  I hate flippers as much as anyone and I would love to be able to pick up the rest of the set without hassle.  

the black BFF plushes may be restocked from the remaining stock they have but they will definitely not be produced again. all the BFF plushes, both the black and the blue version are limited edition and are each individually numbered.

yeah, but didn't they only release like 500 of 3k yesterday.  wasn't saying at all that i thought they would produce more, just that they might restock from the 2500 remaining.

I got an email acknowledging that I tried to purchase yesterday. But nothing since. It says that they will email if there is nothing available to purchase. Perhaps there is some hope. I really though that open edition means that they can sell as many as are ordered, at least for a full 24 hour period.
