Blek le rat Limited Edition Box, by Dr Plip on Oct 24, 2016 18:33:47 GMT 1, I fully understand Mr Rat wanting to gather nuts while it's not raining (as the saying goes).
Some galleries treat artists no better than greyhounds. Milk them for all they are worth, then throw them on the scrapheap. If they're lucky, a select few are used for breeding, but that only guarantees them a few more years of the good life, then they join the rest on the heap.
Underneath all the paint, artists are just human beings like the rest of us. Ok, there are those chimps and elephants that have been taught to paint for the tourists, through the use of peanuts and electric shocks, but they aren't what I'm talking about right now.
All humans are struggling to make ends meet. Sure, some have billions, or even millions, but that doesn't mean that they aren't worried about whether they have enough money to ensure they have food and warmth in their twilight years.
Blek has to provide for his future. Sometimes an artist makes money so they can continue to make art. To satisfy that artistic urge within themselves. That expression of the human condition and exploration of the world around us and within us. Sometimes an artist makes money so they can afford to turn the central heating up.
Artists are people too. I think we forget that sometimes. Sure, it's easy for us to scream "F**KING SELL-OUT, CASHING IN, CYNICAL MARKETINGS**T, MAKE SOMETHING GOOD, WHY DID YOUR WEBSITE CRASH, WHY WON'T THIS FLIP, etc, etc, but, for many artists, art is all they have. You gonna pay Blek to fix your boiler? No. You gonna hire RETNA to cut your hair? No. Sir Peter Blake to perform that heart surgery you need? I don't think so.
Anyway, I'll end this here before I start waffling.

Actually I would be happy to spend a couple of hundred for Blek to turn up at mine to try and fix the boiler. Probably would make a better job of the last fuckers that didn't have a clue. I would pass on the open heart surgery by Blake though, unless it was my in-laws that required it.

Blek le rat Limited Edition Box, by Viking Surfer on Oct 25, 2016 8:34:19 GMT 1, Crooner rat for me is the best image he has churned out in years.
Nice little box set for the hardcore fan though.
It would have been cool had he put the time in to creating something a bit special and new for this. His art hasn't really evolved too much over the years.

Blek le rat Limited Edition Box, by yorkie on Oct 27, 2016 11:32:35 GMT 1, I agree that the Crooner is a great image, possibly his best.
I am going to go against the tide and say that I like the box set. I purchased the classic edition and whilst the euro to pound makes this about 10% more expensive than it would have been about 2 months ago - I do think it is reasonable value.
I think BlR is like marmite ..... I love marmite and have to say Sybille is very attentive to requests and ensures people are kept happy (I didn't have a good experience with the gallery that was being used and Sybille stepped in and made it good).
I am looking forward to the release and for those who are interested it seems there is a good market for those who are lucky enough to get in early....
CROONER RAT - 2016 Screenprint on paper Signed in pencil lower right "Blek le Rat" Numbered in pencil lower left "111/150" 12 1/4 by 9 inches Framed: 18 by 15 inches 82 BLEK LE RAT (French, 1952)
Sale has ended! Winning bid: $3,125 www.juliensauctions.com/
Like most art - you buy what you like - this will go with my other BlR prints!

Blek le rat Limited Edition Box, by bustart on Nov 16, 2016 0:03:23 GMT 1, Blek is still one of the first painting on the streets of this world in the classic stencil style, i would say he deserve every cent he makes and if there is a demand for his art why not bring out the old prints in various sizes. thanks for the wooster link i might get me one for christmas.
