Parra "No Work Today" solo show @ Joshua Liner NYC , by natstan on Nov 19, 2016 8:09:05 GMT 1, there's a difference between having similar styles, and ripping off someone's style. I find comments like this weird. Specially considering we are in the Banksy forum. The URBAN art forum. Maybe I'm not getting something. Are this guy's paintings exact copies of Parra? (Even then it wouldn't be unheard of). I see enough difference in color and trace to let it pass. Maybe we (and there'd be to camps) come from different perspectives. The classical, stablished art one, and the street one. I wouldn't imagine an art academic using the term rip off or being insulted. Derivative, maybe. I suspect people who come here more from the street culture type of thing have more problems with the originality debate. I could be wrong. But by no means do I consider any posture better, higher, more refined than the other one, etc. And I don't mean to start a fight either๐
Contrary to your viewpoint, I actually find many stark similiarities in fucci's works to parra's, be it the subject matter or the use of colors (I do not think one is so silly to actually copy even parra's signature color scheme exactly if he wants the final work to pass off as his own, but it's the method of color application that is more the point of contest here). I'm surprised you would let it pass, cause what's there to like about art in general if everybody do the same thing and originality is lacking? But I guess this chap can copy all he wants now, because parra has certainly moved on from that style as it is clear from this show.

Parra "No Work Today" solo show @ Joshua Liner NYC , by Winter on Nov 19, 2016 9:48:04 GMT 1, I'd say that's more than being influenced. That's just 2 examples, there are lots more. This thread should be about Parra's excellent new show and not be used as an opportunity for Fucci to get exposure, that should go into a separate thread.

Parra "No Work Today" solo show @ Joshua Liner NYC , by lucky7 on Nov 19, 2016 17:29:10 GMT 1, If an artist is good, it shows. If an artist is good, no matter how hard others try, the work will still speak for itself. If an artist is easily copied, doesn't it mean it's a gimick? I think this is a reason why I felt the need toopine here. I feel Im actually defending Parra.
But this is where we meet, find middle ground. Let's leave it at this:
Ok. Let's agrre Parra is the best. He is original, different, and evolving. .. good show.

That's already sold out on his byparra site right? No prints for sale this time, but there is an exhibition catalog that can be pre-ordered from the gallery.

I was actually able to order one at the time posting and it seems like they're still available now. Though, the only shipping areas that I can choose are US, Canada, or Mexico.

Parra "No Work Today" solo show @ Joshua Liner NYC , by nobokov on Nov 20, 2016 17:34:30 GMT 1, You can discuss it all you want but at the end of the day, would you rather have a Parra or a Fucci on the wall? Fucci, hands down.

I'd love to trade it for a Fucci (not that I own one, but that would be the only reason to ever buy one...)

Well, it just so happens I have a large black statue lying down in my kitchen. Kinda makes it tough to cook dinner...Better get crackin on those Fucci acquisitions if you want it!
