Issue Preview: December 2016 with Parra
Juxtapoz ends the 2016 calendar year with an artist in the midst of a significant evolution: Amsterdam-based Parra is getting looser. And more experimental. And making more sculpture work. Long associated with a unique hybrid of both skate and design-culture mixed with humor, we sat down with the Dutchman on the eve of his new solo show, "No Work Today," and talk about his long, extended weekend that he says has been going on for years. Except, you know, he's made a brand and significant art career out of it.

'Falling Into Myself' is my favourite but its a tough choice and you couldn't go wrong with any of them!
There is an exhibition catalogue at $25 containing images of all of the works in the show, as well as installation images!

Absolutely agree, his latest works are really strong, a mixture of abstract with a hint of fauvism. It's hard not to be hooked to the composition and vivid colors.

I find comments like this weird. Specially considering we are in the Banksy forum. The URBAN art forum.
Maybe I'm not getting something. Are this guy's paintings exact copies of Parra? (Even then it wouldn't be unheard of). I see enough difference in color and trace to let it pass.
Maybe we (and there'd be to camps) come from different perspectives. The classical, stablished art one, and the street one.
I wouldn't imagine an art academic using the term rip off or being insulted. Derivative, maybe. I suspect people who come here more from the street culture type of thing have more problems with the originality debate. I could be wrong.
But by no means do I consider any posture better, higher, more refined than the other one, etc. And I don't mean to start a fight either๐
