I take it that it's American football, or baseball, or basketball?
Talking of baseball, did you know that for years there was no hole under the hoop, and someone had to retrieve the ball each time a team scored. I bet they felt silly the first time someone suggested cutting a hole in the bottom of the basket, so the ball falls through!
