RIP Leonard Cohen , by mutatis on Nov 11, 2016 4:01:52 GMT 1, What a year! Just read that Leonard Cohen has passed away. I am not the biggest fan but respect his songwriting talent as he was treasured by songwriters that I hold dear, just to name a few Nick Cave, Ian McCulloch and Andrew Eldritch. There are of course many many more who are influenced by him.
Whilst his most well-known song might be Hallelujah I am fond of this

RIP Leonard Cohen , by I Woke in Relief on Nov 11, 2016 5:08:30 GMT 1, Just like with Bowie, Cohen managed to put out an incredibly strong album just before he died (You Want it Darker) with a pretty damn unflinching eye on his own impending death. Really highly recommended.

RIP Leonard Cohen , by Lroy on Nov 11, 2016 8:03:39 GMT 1, Rip mister Cohen. Yes I M your man , best come back and commercial Lp That he ever done ( charts preferred other singers) , with a great flow and melody. One of the best surprise and lp from the 80. A new style. Without any polemic, we can't compare Bowie and Cohen. Cogent had always his style, Bowie always looked for new style. I like both and that's no important , I admit.

RIP Leonard Cohen , by Bill Hicks on Nov 11, 2016 13:29:33 GMT 1, On Old Ideas he sang about writing โa manual for living with defeatโ, that being the human condition as far as he was concerned. โNobody has a life that worked out the way they wanted it work out,โ he told journalist Mark Ellen in 2007. The role of a good song, he continued, was to share that feeling so that โwe feel less isolated and we feel part of the great human chain which is really involved with the recognition of defeatโ. For Cohen, defeat was the truth of things; the source of all the best jokes; the reason to make art; the crack where the light gets in.
Cohen never talked up his own importance. He often said he was just making the most of the limited talents he had been given and hoping that whatever insights he had gleaned could be useful to the listener. Songwriting was his way of making sense of a bewildering world and dissolving the loneliness.

RIP Leonard Cohen , by Coach on Nov 11, 2016 13:39:05 GMT 1, Everybody knows that the dice are loaded Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed Everybody knows the war is over Everybody knows the good guys lost Everybody knows the fight was fixed The poor stay poor, the rich get rich That's how it goes Everybody knows
Everybody knows that the boat is leaking Everybody knows that the captain lied Everybody got this broken feeling Like their father or their dog just died Everybody talking to their pockets Everybody wants a box of chocolates And a long-stem rose Everybody knows
Everybody knows that you love me baby Everybody knows that you really do Everybody knows that you've been faithful Ah, give or take a night or two Everybody knows you've been discreet But there were so many people you just had to meet Without your clothes And everybody knows
Everybody knows, everybody knows That's how it goes Everybody knows
And everybody knows that it's now or never Everybody knows that it's me or you And everybody knows that you live forever Ah, when you've done a line or two Everybody knows the deal is rotten Old Black Joe's still pickin' cotton For your ribbons and bows And everybody knows
And everybody knows that the Plague is coming Everybody knows that it's moving fast Everybody knows that the naked man and woman Are just a shining artifact of the past Everybody knows the scene is dead But there's gonna be a meter on your bed That will disclose What everybody knows
And everybody knows that you're in trouble Everybody knows what you've been through From the bloody cross on top of Calvary To the beach of Malibu Everybody knows it's coming apart Take one last look at this Sacred Heart Before it blows And everybody knows
Everybody knows, everybody knows That's how it goes Everybody knows
